I've seen tiger exhibits with underwater viewing on numerous occasions in North America and Europe, but how many of the selections on this thread have that feature? It's a fantastic element to any tiger enclosure, as tigers will freely use their pools on a hot day and the public can be enthralled to see the big cats underwater.

Good question. Chester definitely have under water viewing, as for the rest I can't recall any others having it. However, other members may correct me on that.

Score update. It is currently extremely close with YWP leading by 2 votes over Knowsley and London. This is one of the tightest polls so far with a three horse race for the lead with Highland trailing a bit further behind. It is evident there are several excellent Tiger enclosures within the UK, with YWP being able to offer two spacious, well landscaped enclosures currently having a slight edge.

I originally hadn't intended to vote in this poll as I felt that I hadn't seen some of the main contenders, but in the end I opted to vote for Yorkshire as its my favourite of the ones that I have seen - and to be honest, I didn't want London to win and was quite shocked it had got so many votes! Highland and Knowsley look excellent though and I wouldn't begrudge either the win.

I also think Hamerton deserve a mention; I really like their Malayan Tiger enclosure and the viewing areas it offers. On my last visit I had some fantastic views of a tiger being fed, with meat being chucked into the pool. There was a photography group present but I got a pretty good show from the viewing window!

Poll closed. Congratulations to YWP on winning the vote for Best UK Tiger enclosure. In the end it was a narrow victory over Knowsley and London, who came second and third respectively. All three exhibits are relatively recent additions (as are those at Chester, Edinburgh, Twycross, etc) and this probably partly explains the high quality of Tiger enclosures in the UK.

This win completes the set of Big Cat victories for YWP, having previously won the Leopard and Lion polls. Therefore, they definitely have a strong claim to having the Best Big Cat enclosures in the UK. This was Knowsley and London's (possible claim to best Sumatran Tiger enclosure) best performances so far. This was also the first poll that Highland has been involved in that it has not won.

I also thought it would be interesting to look at those collections who hadn't been performing so well at this stage. The four main ones that stood out (involved in more than six polls and less than 5 votes overall) were Dudley, Belfast, Wingham and South Lakes. There are obviously reasons behind these performances, some partly due to fewer members having visited the collections and others have stronger exhibits still to come.

@J C and @Jedd Cullinan who did you want to vote for?

YWP: 27.7%
Knowsley: 21.3%
London: 19.1%
Highland: 8.5%
Chester: 6.4%
Colchester: 4.3%
Whipsnade: 4.3%
Edinburgh: 4.3%
Other: 4.3%

I wouldn't disagree, I think if this ran in 2 or 3 years Twycross would beat London definitely

Just on a side note given the amount of entries in this poll and amount left out are tigers as popular in zoos as meerkats ?

Since there over 100 meerkat enclosures and some zoos have 3 or 4 I really hope we won't bother with them?!

I would be voting for Longleat for the amazing tiger exhibit in this poll but I'm told it's decided the drive through is not part of this poll so I voted other

If you are going to vote then I think you need to actually pick a different non-drive through enclosure that you believe is the best. Voting 'other' just because Longleat was not included is not really in the spirit of the thing.
