Taiping Zoo Best Zoo In Malaysia

Taiping Zoo & Night Safari...In my opinion, it is the best zoo in Malaysia. It is really unique on its own way of natural setting and animals display.

Specialty :

-oldest zoo in Malaysia
( open in 1961 )
-first night safari in Malaysia & third in the world
( open in 2003 )
-one of the most beautiful locations
( surrounds by the famous Taiping Lake Garden and near the foot of the Larut or Maxwell Hill )
-one of the famous historical places
( situated at Taiping, the wettest part in Malaysia )

-one of the best natural tropical rain forest setting
( lush greenery surroundings with streams, lakes, abundance of flora & sightings of free ranging wild animals within the zoo )
-one of the best animal enclosures
( natural looking and spacious exhibits for each species of animals )

I'm pretty sure that none other zoos in Malaysia ( Zoo Negara & Zoo Melaka ) have offer the kind this kind beauty of nature..

The zoo map in this website is out of dated and maybe 10 years back if i'm not mistaken. Now, they have brought in a lot of new animals from Africa, South America and the country itself, Malaysia. No new map is available for now.

Comparison with other zoos

Taiping Zoo & Night Safari is one of the major zoological parks in Malaysia. It covers 34 acres (14 ha) and exhibits 1300 animals representing 180 species.
These figures shows that this zoo is smaller in size and lack of number of animals compared to Zoo Negara & Zoo Melaka.

But, I think that this zoo is much more better than the other major zoo in Malaysia. I have visited this zoo more than 7 times nearly once a year for the past 10 years. I'm from the same state of Perak and I love to sight-seeing around Taiping as well as Taiping Zoo & Night Safari because of its beautiful natural environment. So I do read a lot of articles and gather information from internet about this magnificent zoo. I personally feel that this zoo is almost equal in terms of size of land area and number of animals with other major zoos.

Zoo Negara
Home to 5137 animals of 459 different species in a land area of 110acres (45ha). Nearly 40% of the land area is a large lake at the middle of the zoo which exhibits water birds such as storks, ibises, egrets, swans and pelicans. As you can see, the number of animals is quite high in the zoo.This figure represents mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects and freshwater fishes. So if you able to count the total number of mammals and birds only, I'm sure that the figure cant exceed more than 2000. Although this zoo showcasing a very impressive collection of fishes, amphibians, and insects, almost all the species of mammals and birds that exhibited here are same as the other zoos. Only some of the species of animals are only present in this zoo like pygmy hippopotamus, brown bear, asiatic black bear, sable antelope and so on. You cant see these kind of animals anywhere in Malaysia's other zoological parks.

Zoo Melaka
More than 1200 animals of 215 species can be found in a land area of 54acres ( 22ha). If you can see the map of Zoo Melaka, only along the sides of the zoo are designed to exhibit animals. Some parts of the zoo is just empty land areas with no animals enclosures. Although, the enclosures are spacious for animals, it is not a natural looking view compared to Taiping one.A golf course surrounds the zoo and there were some tourist attractions beside the zoo which make the zoo unnatural. But this zoo is unique for its some of the collection of African hoof stock species which you cant see them in any other zoos in Malaysia and doesn't exhibited only hippopotamus. Other species of animals are almost same with Taiping one.

So, these major zoological parks are almost same between each other but all in all Taiping Zoo & Night Safari is a pleasant and well set up zoo. It's worth a day and a night safari visit, both showing different animals activity. I'm not criticized the other zoos. I just wanna share my opinion that Taiping one is the best. For those who are nature lovers by taking care on zoo's animal exhibit conditions, I think that you should visit this zoo if you had a chance.
