Best zoo to see a rhino

Lots of zoos have rhinos but which is the best one?

Many years ago I've seen a Rhino at Berlin Zoo, but in a tiny, awul enclosure, so the zoo is not that good at all.

Well, there was also a rhino at Hamburg zoo, but the enclosure was even smaller and this zoo is not good either.

I have also seen a Rhino at London Zoo in a very small enclosure in a horrible , huge house made out of concrete, and this poor animal had to live in an awul , tiny stable. This zoo was not nice either, neither for the animals nor for me.

The fifth zoo I was to with a rhino was Munich Zoo. The rhino there had a huge natural outdoor exhibit and a wonderful palace-like house with huge stables and a phantastic pool. I think, this was probably the best zoo I've seen a rhino.

Really confused as to what you mean here? If you mean which zoo has the most rhino species, I think SDZSP has 3. If you are asking what is the best place to see rhinos - literally any zoo with rhinos - they aren't exactly the smallest animals are they?
Ya I kind of ment what’s your favourite place to see them.

I've seen a limited number of rhino exhibits, but confessing some bias my favorite is the Indian One-horned Rhinoceros exhibit in Wild Asia at the Bronx Zoo. There's lots of vegetation, although much of it is fairly discreetly fenced off to keep the rhinos from denuding the whole area, and two substantial rhino self-made mud holes in which the animals clearly love to wallow. And there's no concrete to be seen anywhere.

I bet, you will find some concrete in their barn. ;) Whether the animals in winter have such an essential for this species mud hole, I dare to doubt once, but that have probably the few zoos, which all claim to keep their animals so close to nature, right ? Also- just one single, but nice outdoor enclosure for 5 or even 7 rhinos living as loners in the wild, I find rather deplorable for a zoo with such a good reputation.

Vienna is the best I've personally seen, the one that's built in Berlin currently may surpass it.

@Bib Fortuna Which Munich one do you mean? The outdoor is ok, but the indoor is more on the smaller side and is scheduled to be used for smaller species in the masterplan.

One of my favourite views of Rhinos is the Cotswold Wildlife Park.

The wildlife park is set in the grounds of a manor house. The rhino paddock is right next to it. The barriers are predominantly ha-ha ditches which are largely invisible on the opposite side of the enclosure.

If you view the rhinos from the opposite side of the paddock it creates an optical illusion of a manor house with a herd of rhinos on the lawn. There is an example of such a photo in the thread below about white rhino enclosures in the UK.

Best UK White Rhino enclosure

Zoo with best white rhinoceros enclosure i've ever seen: Safaripark Beekse Bergen or Zoo Antwerp
Zoo with best Indian rhinoceros enclosure i've ever seen: Rotterdam Zoo
Zoo with best black rhinoceros enclosure i've ever seen: Rotterdam Zoo (only one i've ever seen:p)

There's a Zoo in England called South Lakes Safari Zoo, they used to keep their rhinos in a big paddock alongside giraffes and baboons, but after a major expansion both the giraffes and rhinos were moved to a much bigger paddock that's on flatter ground than the original. There's also a shorter barrier and a long trench between them so you can get a much better look at the rhinos from relatively close.
The rhinos and giraffes share an outdoor space with zebras, nyala and wildebeest, but the last time I went the zebras were being kept separate from the other animals, indoors, following an incident where a couple of zebras attacked a baby rhino.
As for others, the black rhino exhibit at Chester Zoo is supposed to be really good from what I've heard, but it's been more than a decade since J went there so I don't remember it very well.

I think in almost any category San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Three species of rhino in massive savanna habits in proper crashes. And historically one of the last places to see the Northern White Rhino in North America (A pride point of mine).

Other than the Kilimanjaro Safari exhibit in Disney's Animal Kingdom I haven't seen any rhino exhibit that really stands out to be honest. Plus, as mentioned, they aren't exactly small and hard to spot.

I know only one Munich, and that is, as far as I know, in Bavaria, an incentive state of Germany. The rhino house in the zoo is fantastic, the architecture is wonderful and the rhinos have large stalls and a bathing pool. The only reason the house will be used for other animals in the future is because it is in the new South America section of the park. I don't think there are any rhinos there. But until this master plan is realized, Munich will have a mayor from Saxony, ban leather trousers made of real leather and serve only non-alcoholic beer at the Oktoberfest.

To be fair, there are ways in which rhinos could be hard to spot. For instance, I had a hard time spotting the black rhino when I went to Buffalo Zoo as it was lying down in some tall grass near the back of the exhibit. I managed to see its ear sticking out, but that was about it. They could also be hard to spot if the exhibit has blind spots where visitors can't see the animals.
