big Asian hornbills in walkthrough exhibit

I wasn't aware of the exhibits in Nanning zoo or Lok Kawi wildlife park. Thanks for the new info. I admit I am a bit puzzled why a park in Sabah would want to use their space on a walk-through hornbill exhibit. If in Sabah people can just visit Danum Valley or some of the other reserves and easily see many species of wild hornbills. I like zoos but if I got the choice between seeing a species in the wild and in a zoo it would still be an easy choice.

The logic behind Lok Kawi is it provides an educational base for local schools as it features 90% indiginous animals, but also as a day out both for the locals that don't want to drive 2 hours to Danum, or further afieled to Kinabantangan or Tabin etc, but the tourist board aslo want to promote Kota Kinabalu as a long weekend desination for nearby countries and mainland Malaysia, as well as a docking point for cruise ships, so the wildlife park acts as a taster to come back to Sabah to explore its wilder side.

While the zoo is still a work in progress it does have some nice enclosures, the Aviary IMO being its crowning jewel, 4 acres and quite high, there are photo's in the lok kawi gallery.
