Wildlife Heritage Foundation Big Cat Sanctuary - Smarden

Definitely wasn't any Fishing cats.
That is a shame. They had the best fishing cat enclosure I have seen anywhere, a beautiful large pond with natural reeds. I took a photo of one walking across a log over the reeds and that photo is used regularly by Fishing Cat Conservancy.

Heads up to anyone interested. The BCS have put online their open days for July 2019. These tend to sell out fast and there is only the 5 days starting 24th July. Tickets cost £22 per Adult, and £16.50 for 3-14 year olds. Under 3's are free, but you have to buy a ticket.

Events from 10am to 5am, and it's the only way to view the place apart from their VIP tours.

Not sure if anyone on their newsletter to have seen this so passing on, and know a few of you may wish to visit but can't afford their VIP days they have.

Tickets remain for all 5 days, but the Saturday and Sunday are selling fast.

I visited today for the first time. Despite the miserable weather I enjoyed my day there. All the enclosures were at the least adequate, some better than that.
Disappointed by no show snow leopard cubs, Lynx, Sumatran tiger, rusty spotted cat, pallas 's Cat and Fishing Cat (shown on ZTL as a former holding for some reason!), but seeing several active jaguars and Amur & N Chinese leopards made up for that.
Highlight of the day - seeing my first Jungle Cat since Poole Park Zoo around 40 years ago!
I left feeling it is a shame the place doesn't open more regularly to the public, which would make it more comfortable (it was packed despite the rain), but given the amount they charge and obviously receive for private experiences I guess 5 days opening a year is enough

The fishing cat is male 'Aquarius' born in 2011 at the RSCC. He never left. Saw him yesterday just before 5pm, he was getting fed. Lovely cat!

We went to the open day this time last year and although we didn't actually see a Fishing cat I remember the enclosure with signs up and looking lived in.

Male African Lion Manzi has been put to sleep due to health issues. He was head of the pride of white lionesses.

Does anyone know whether the big cat sanctuary will still have its open days? I have tickets for the first time in a while so I was really looking forward to going, but of course I understand if they have chosen to cancel that event given the large turnout it often gets.

I will get my mystic hat on,sorry nope cannot see anything ,but seriously I suggest you contact them as if you have tickets they will have given you a contact location/number,as anyone else just like myself will just be guessing at the answer,I suspect at present they don't have a clue themselves, but always better to ask the place themselves instead of here as more likely to get a senseable answer from the place!
