now u are teasing us zoogiraffe, do you work for the zoo, you seem to have the inside track on what is happening at chester. Appreciate the news though, thank you. I take it you know the species of hoofstock being mentioned.
No i don`t work at the zoo but no alot of people who do including most of the top management as a result do tend to find out quite alot of stuff,as for the hoofstock yes i do know what it is will post it as soon as i`m told i can, when it comes in they will be the only ones in europe thats as far as i will go for now.

now you've got me thinking, this is very exciting. I appreciate what you are allowed to tell us. God i want to ask a thousand questions.

Only ones in Europe.. This is was not expecting. This blows my theroys out of the window then. Saiga?? Javan Rhinos?? No, probably not. Im exited now.

Oooooh exciting!!!!!

I'm guessing some form of Philippine animal being imported from America, the zoo is brill with Philippine species, and they don't yet have Tamaraw!

Is it a tamaraw?

Remember that zoogiraffe isn't going to say, 'Yes, that's it, well done!' if you work it out!

Interesting about the Butterfly House - that one got under the radar! Perhaps a (semi)temporary one in the style of London's?

Its not going to be temporary i believe they are doing it because the Buterflies in the jaguar house didn`t survive very long due to the ventilation system in their,as a result it`s something that they wanted to put right. As for the hoofstock keep guessing coming up with some nice ideas that i can suggest to the staff.

Fair do's; all in favour of invert exhibits. Will be fascinated to see where it ends up going.

Butterflies are quite trendy at the minute? Colchester are getting one, london's got one...

Hoofstock, how about, switching the Brazilian Tapirs for Andean Tapir?
OR
A rare gazelle like Mountain Gazelle?
OR
A serow sp. other than Japanese?
OR
Something North American like Desert Bighorn?

going with the themeing round the black rhino area with the new aviary and cheetah enclosure, how about giant eland or gerenuk from the usa.

I can swear they have Eland at West Midland Safari Park, but I'd love to see a Gerenuk at Chester

I don't think they will be having Tamaraw, I'm guessing some other Philippines ungulate which is kept in America.

The zoo will not import anything that is not already in captivity.

Are you sure they won`t import something thats not already in captivity, because some of the stuff that i`ve heard discussed isn`t in any zoo.

czjimmy, they may have common eland at west midlands but no zoo in europe has giant eland

I'm only saying what the staff have told me, the management will not take animals from out of the wild.

They would if it came from a internationaly recognized rescue centre for animals or a game park that needs to move animals on due to space concerns.

I prefer to have a surprise. If I knew in advance which ungulate was to be imported I would feel let down if by any chance this did not occur. RE the addax from Germany.
