When you said cubs on you first post, you meant Jaguar cubs didn't you, not Brownies cubs and guides cubs!!!!!

The babirusa may have died.

I did mean jaguar cubs, I never noticed until you pointed it out. Thanks.

I don't know of any new arrivals other than those I already posted. The adult white storks have moved to the pelican enclosure and last years young are still in their old enclosure. The blue crane may be nesting. The red-crowned crane is nesting. The Wattled Cranes are doing their usual nothing.

I had heard this was only Phase 1 but since forgotten that. Do you think they need a phase 2? I presume this would be a pretty big construction too. If Phase 1 can hold all their existing Oranguans, then phase 2 must mean they plan to exend(double?) the number of animals in the future.

Chester Zoo does plan to hold a greater number of Orang Utans.

2 Great Grey Owls have hatched and the Greater Vasa Parrots have bred another 3 chicks. A second female Salvadori's Pheasant has arrived, giving the zoo 2 pairs. A curassow egg was seen on the ground near to thge front of one of the macaw avairies.

I saw the Greater Vasa Parrots mating when I was there on 24 June.

Chester's Wikipedia article has been updated today with a claim that they are getting Tasmanian devils for a new Australian area. Is this true?

Also, later this year the zoo will be launching a new website. I think their current site is ok design-wise, certainly above average compared to other zoo websites, but it's not updated enough. It still talks about Elephants of the Asian Forest as a future development!

I've heard the website is going to be re-vamped.

A decision to keep Tasmanian Devils was made several years ago at a Marsupial TAG meeting. It would seem things have now started to happen.

Hornbill asked if there were any more new arrivals at Chester, I just remembered the zoo now has a pair each of Azara's Agouti and White-crested Turaco. I don't know where the devils would go (the mongoose exhibit by the staff entrance would be a likely place - other Australian animals are nearby). Also I can't find any mention of them on the Wikipedia site, though I have seen this species mentioned before as previously posted.

Are the agoutis kept with the Blue throated macaws?
Are the red tailed amazons still in that exhibit, as they weren't when I went on the 28th of May?

Is this still at Chester?

It is not clear to what you are referring. The Tasmanian Devils are a species which Chester expressed an interest in acquiring several years ago. I can't remember which year but it was in an issue of Ratel, which at the time carried reports of the various UK TAG meetings. Chester exhibited a Tasmanian Devil in 1934.

My post saying yes to both concerns your question about the agoutis and amazon parrots.

The information was deleted soon after it was added because it was unverifiable. The same user had also written something about a male sun bear.

I have heard nothing about a sun bear coming to Chester Zoo.

I gather so, with probably a much larger outdoor area aswell.

Apparently the choice of gibbon species to be housed with the orangutans was decided by which species was most common in zoo's just incase of an accident when introducing the two species.

tasmanian devils seems very unlikely. though you never know. we sent some to denmark recently just because some pompous tasmanian schoolteacher married their prince.

I would like to know if Birma is with the other elephants and hhow she is coming along with them and if Upali runs with the family and if he is permanently seperated, why (in case you get the possibility to ask questions). Thanks!
