Big Week at the Zoo

I found Skelton irritating too but the title alone is telling us that 'Big Week at the Zoo' is not aimed at Zoochatters, nor is it aimed at young people who are already engaged. It is an extra boost for UK zoos to get families whose adults are bombarded with anti-zoo propaganda every summer, to see a positive role and take their children. Surely that's a good thing. She is perfectly capable of presenting in a non patronising way , for example Countryfile & the BBC's swimming coverage and she is tough too. She kayaked up the Amazon, rode a bicycle to one of the poles and took part in ultra marathons. I have seen her present on children's programmes and not be patronising, so I think the blame needs to be aimed at the programme makers really for under-selling what they had. As for squeaky voice (and I am not suggesting that this isn't a genuine problem for people with hearing issues) that is pretty much her regional accent and we shouldn't be discriminating against that (again not saying that I find all accents easy on the ear); and eye candy or role model to show that it is fine to be attractive and dress nicely as well as liking 'outdoor things'? I can think of lots of pre-teens who will have enjoyed the format and coverage.

I'm glad someone else is prepared to defend Helen Skelton too. As I said earlier I think she is ok for the format they have chosen, maybe not perfect but she is doing the job she has been chosen to do and her employers must be happy with her.

Again is television land reading these forums (suspect it was more general complaints) but Helen was toned down in last nights episode, maybe it was the rain? I think made it all work for the better.

Also those saying its not made for us zoonerds? Is there any programme made for us? Be a very niche programme and wouldn't entertain the masses. I am watching to be entertained like everyone else.

Overall I would watch next year if they do another series.

I noticed that too. A great improvement. I could even understand most of what she was saying. I've no problem with her accent; it's her diction which is the main issue.
