I believe that Billabong Koala Sanctuary and Zoo has now been admitted as an Associate member of ZAA.

Congratulations to owners Mark and Daneena Stone and Senior Keeper Christy Brown for all the hard work that they have put in to achieve this.

I find it interesting and heartening to see the number of smaller private zoos that are becoming more involved in the wider Zoo world with the keeping of exotics like the snow leopards. I hope that this means that with a wider number of spaces available we will be able to emulate programs like the sumatran tigers but with other species, especially smaller cats for instance.

I agree with Jay, especially about the small cats. Does this mean that Taronga is expecting a new pair soon?

I hope so but maybe not a new breeding pair. Melbourne may be starting to look around for somewhere to place their two cubs that were born in 2008.

There is only one 'cub' now, the male died at the beginning of the year

Billabong Koala & Wildlife Park also looks to be planning to obtain and display lions and cheetah, in a new attraction called Lion Around.

The Lion Around - Big Cat Adventures project will offer visitors a unique close up encounter with both the African Lion and Cheetah. The exhibits will allow visitors to get as close as possible to the animals and allow keepers to perform interactive demonstrations.

0.1 southern cassowary has arrived from Perth (and named 'Hope), which was bred there (this is the sister of the young male at Adelaide).
