Does anyone know if there are any binterongs (no sure about spelling)? I would to see this fantastic animal.

There are a significant number of binturong (estimated at several thousand) living wild in Southeast Asia, with over 200 in captivity worldwide. There are a number in zoos throughout the UK.

Chessington have bred there's and ISIS show a group of 2.4 so that would be your best bet!

The binturong enclosure at Edinburgh is currently being redevloped for a pair of Temmincks golden cat, so i don't know the future of binturong at Edinburgh!

Thank you for you info - it is very helpful. :) Hopefully I should be able to get these wonderful creatures soon.

Im quite new to zoochat and Im not up on all the abbreviations yet, which place is RSCC?

The last time I was at Buffalo Zoo in NY (back in 1997, I believe) there was a Binturong. Not sure if they still keep the species or not.

Cincinnati Zoo has 2 of them, one is in the Nocturnal House named Ricky, The other one is part of the Education Program, named Lucy, she is only 2 years old, and is the mascot for the University of Cincinnati and also appears at UC events.

Doesn't Hamerton have them aswell?

They are listed on their website so I assume they do.

ISIS is not an all inclusive list of collections that keep them places haven't subscribed to the service.

They are a fantastic species to work with and I'm glad they are coming back in vogue as it were.

I heard hot buttered popcorn (I think it was Jack Hanna said it on a programme I saw once)

They only sometimes smell of popcorn, I think when they're excited.
Adelaide Zoo has a male binturong called Perak, he was smelling very popcorny on Sunday!
