In June a Cape porcupine (Hystrix africaeaustralis) was born, this is the first time that this species has bred succesfully in Bioparc Valencia.

Is there any way that bioparc could acquire any more pure members of this species for breeding. It’s a very unique species I don’t wish to see disappear from Europe.

I think this specie will disappear soon from European parks...
It would probably be fairly easy to import a group into Europe from Africa.

Or the US, at that. It’s also likely a specimen or two could pop up on International Zoo-Services, which I believe works with the WAZA and has done some good work in Spain. They could also get a pure African Leopard too if they were to look over on Zoo-Services as there is currently one available iirc, so a kilpspringer doesn’t sound too far out of the question.

Rafiki, the park's troop's dominant male Drill (Mandrillus leucophaeus) has been euthanized due to the diagnosis of lymphoma and the strong deterioration this kind of cancer produces. A genuine pity, he arrived from Hannover when the park first opened and was a stunning animal that has been the father of 14ish individuals. He will be missed.
