Do you know what happened to them?- particularly the adult male from Leipzig mentioned above by Bjoern.

I have to say, as I posted on here previously, I thought these open mixed exhibits were highly unsuitable for a nervous/timid and rare Guenon species like Hamlyn's and maybe that's proved to be true?:(
 
I think that the true problem are the old age to the individuals who be sended to Valencia.
I never seen these monkeys really nervous...Sometimes cautious yes, but never nervous.
Not with the gorillas, and not with the pygmy hippos.

I have visited Bioparc Valencia this June and asked a keeper about the hamlyns/owl-faced monkeys. If I've understand correctly (my Spanish is very limited and the keeper wasn't able to speak any other language) at least one of the monkeys died (were there more then 1,1?) and one was sent to Fuengirola Zoo. But I could'nt figure out which is still alive (sorry for the delay Bjoern).

Some individuals are nervous, e.g. the male at Twycross. But overall I think the enclosure was wrong for this species- too open and with little climbing and cover opportunity for a forest-living species.

I just looked on ISIS and Fuengirola isn't listed as having any, but of course it could be a recent transfer. According to ISIS there are just 20(8.12) of these Monkeys left in Europe now.
 
I don't know at 100% but i doubt that Fuengirola have any Hamlyni...
 
You may be right. It's just what (I thought) the keeper told me (once again: My Spanish is far away from being perfect).

But you are much closer to those zoos and I am sure you can figure it out.
 
How's the elephant program progressing? Will the breeding age Namibia cows be artificially inseminated? Or will they wait for the Colchester male to mature?
 
The Namibia cows are 11, 10, 8, 8, 7, & 6. So four of them are, or should be sexually mature. Jambo, from Colchester, is seven. So at best he'll be mature in three-five years.

The African Elephant program in Europe needs to pick up a bit. And with six very young cows, Valencia has potential to make a large contribution.

They would require a bull at least in the 12-18 range to be successful.
I DO think/feel the new EEP coordinator the Africans may be more watchful of this and other age issues ...
 
It might be a good idea that the two "large" herds in Spain (Valencia and Cabarceno) share some animals in order to ​​breeding soon.Of course with the EEP coordinator 'permission'
 
Yesterday I go to Bioparc with a friend of mine and we saw the two talapoin species one of them with the gorillas and the other one with the sitatungas, drills and Nile geese.
 
Two months ago (approximately) the first red fronted lemur (a male) was born in Bioparc Valencia.
 
Yesterday Jane Goodall gave a lecture in Bioparc. I was among the lucky ones who could hear this magnificent and amazing woman.
Was a really impressive experience.
 
Different births species in the last few weeks:
Naked-mole rats, red river hog, suricatas and Madagascar day gecko.

A 5 yo female fossa named Ankarana comes to Valencia, she was born in Germany, but arrives from Wroclaw (Poland)

I hope that the adaptation with Androy (the male) fast and do well.

Duisburg Zoo I expect?

On the African elephants: do you have any idea what the immediate plans for the African elephant group are right now? How big is the exhibit space and do they have separate bull stalls, and mother-calf exclosure?
 
Hi KB, about your questions I don't know any answer, but I suppose (I love to speculate) :D that probably you're right with the fossa "first home"; and talking about the elephants, right now there it's 1,6 and I suppose the indoor stables are adequate for to keep an adult male and females with her future babies in separated facilities as well.
My supposition it's based in the capacity for to accommodate 1,9 elephants few days ago.
But -off course-not 100% sure.
 
Gorilla update

Any truth in the rumour that Gorilla 'Mambi' has fathered a baby with one of the females?
