Bioparc Valencia Bioparc Valencia News

I have an anual pass for the Bioparc and have visited it about 10 times already. The Gorilla enclosure has now opened, there are two Gorilla`s plus a huge one that is very reluctant to show itself. and has apparently not come out of the cave fully yet. I managed to get some shots which are posted in the gallery.

The Parc itself is fantastic I will post more details and photos when I get back from holiday next week.

Did you see the three Gorillas altogether in the one enclosure? The male is 'Mambi'- I don't know why he's so reluctant to come out as he's lived in open air enclosures all his life...

The park looks fantastic for the eyes of the visitors, but for the animals it is NOT. There is a huge, huge difference between good-looking and good enclosures. In the Bioparc, most enclosures exept the large savannah in the middle are rather cramped and/or not well adapted to the animals which are living there..

It`s a pretty sad thing in my opinion.

At least is 100 times better than the old zoo in Valencia.

My experience of modern day zoos is pretty limited, but I think the new Bioparc is a huge improvement on what went before. Don`t forget this is a city zoo not a safari park. The Gorilla cage alone is a big as the old zoo which held Rhino, hippo`s, leopards ,primates to name a few.
It may not be perfect (lets face it the only perfect place is in the wild!) but with limited space they have produced an excellent facility. They are also working hard at conservation issues and part of each entry fee goes towards this.
I will post some more photos next week to show what is there.

No, There is no guide book yet, which is a bit frustrating. I assume they are wating till the whole parc is finished. There are signs all around the parc naming the animals and giving details of habitat, lifestyle etc.

So, what's next for Bioparc?? I've heard that they are getting penguins from Odense Zoo in Denmark... Tell me more about Bioparc's future, please?

I also wondered about this. Odense Zoo says that they will be sending 15 of their gentoo penguins to Bioparc Valencia. Surely this must be part of the Bioparc's South American theme?

Their newsletter specifically says Bioparc Valencia. They also refer to it as "the brand new zoo of Spain in Valencia".

I Was in bioparc Wednesday, the only guidebook available is the Fuengirola zoo (remember two zoos are managed for the same company) i see drills climbing to the artificial trees of his installation,I see a curious thing too, the chimps are feeding in the sun ,but the food are available in the shade zone, they take the food but they went at the sun zone for to eat it (two things never seen before,I go 12 times or so) but i don't never see any enclosure for penguins...they are training a lot of birds for shows , hornbills, owls, vultures and more...i upload a lot of pics Saturday or Sunday EU time. The South America and Asia extensions are planed but not before 3-5 years, I think.

Please keep us updated if you hear anything about when they are arriving, or where from & their names etc. Presumably they will join silverback Jitu from Blackpool?

Or you can post any news in 'Lowland Gorillas in Europe' thread.

Many thanks.:)
