Bioparc Valencia Bioparc Valencia News

Any news on the giraffe front?
Do they have more females now?

What about the bull elephant issue ... has it been resolved who is next in line?

Actually the Giraffe herd it's composed by 8 animals: 4 Baringo genetically pure and 4 hybrids.

4 males Julius,Tumai, Ramses and Kebo? and 4 females.Zora, Buleria, Che and Afrika.

To my knowledge no news about elephants.

I wish they would now discontinue breeding from hybrid cow(s) Che. No point in that ... (use contraceptive if want to keep in the herd) now. Time to bring in more pure-bred females (we are talking a highly threatened taxon here).

Well; I agree with you, but Tumai and Ramses are pure-bred. And the next calf (I hope) to be Julius and Buleria son or daughter.

In regard to the bull elephant topic, it looks like Yoga, from Basel, Switzerland, will be transferred to Bioparc Valencia around late July-early August. He will stay, and hopefully breed with the cows until construction on the new elephant house in Basel is complete (2015 I believe).

For the first time two rocky hyrax has born in Bioparc Valencia.

Farewell Romulo!

Is it not true there is another male rhino at RN Castillo already: Serrano born 1993 (Madrid Safari)? He was transferred there with his mother La Loca (what is in a name? :D). It seems she is no longer there (2012: 1.0).

In the last weeks the 2nd drill and 2nd red fronted lemur for Bioparc and another impala was born.

Thanks Nisha.
I suspected, because Tumai ritual fights began with his father more and more often ...

The newspaper feature is not entirely correct. The male Kebo is by hybrid female Che, isn't it?!! Zola had her second calf Ramses in 2012!!!

Near Sevilla and it is a hybrid safari park / zoo.

Thanks......I'll be in Sevilla in Oct and may visit but with no car it may be difficult.

I had a look at the website.....does this represent everything kept there or are there also some smaller species?

Not too keen on water with gorillas ... given their capacity for drownings.
Even though in nature natural bais in the central African rainforest are part and parcel of them wading through low waters ...
