Bird Flu Closures in the US

I just began reading about all of this in the past few days and speaking from the vet field aspect, this sounds detrimental for many collections. I haven’t read of cases being in California yet but if I find out through my job, I’ll let you all know anything I know. We don’t deal with birds often but my clinic is kept up to date regarding cases like these due to being a rescue clinic. It looks like culling is the recommended step for infected flocks and my home zoos have a great amount of endangered bird species, this truly concerns me.

Hey @birdsandbats, thank you for the updated list, but the North Carolina Zoo has actually permanently closed their aviary (for reasons unrelated to the bird flu). You may want to make some sort of edit so people don't get confused and think it's only temporarily closed.

According to the zoo itself, bird flu is the reason that the aviary is closed. Are you sure this is permanent, and what would the other reason be?

It was structurally unstable and would have cost an estimated $50 million to rebuild. It unfortunately suffered the same fait as Tampa’s old African Wetlands aviary and the bird flu was just the straw that broke the camels back.

Yes, the zoo did originally close the aviary to the public in January due to the bird flu, and this was intended to only be temporary. However, the closure was made permanent just last week when it was found that the Aviary was no longer suitable for use due to sustained structural issues.
