Bird Paradise Bird Paradise news 2024

The saddlebill pair is currently in the fenced area opposite the feeding platform. A similar fenced area is currently being built near the usual saddlebill “enclosure”.

The saddlebills are back in their usual place, now with proper fences. Hopefully it means Gru is going to be released soon.

Some things from my recent visit over the weekends:

1. Spotted some Speckled Mousebirds (about 3) at HoA.
2. Pompadour Cotinga (M) seems to adapt well in Amazonian Jewels.
3. Toco Toucan from Amazonian Jewels was moved to Winged Sanc (overheard the conversation between a keeper and guest). Please do correct me if there are any misinformation.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Mandai has several toco toucans but most of them are with the show department. Only 1 female was on display in Fragile Forest and she was moved to BP. I wonder if the other birds in Fragile Forest and Amazonian Jewels did breed when she lived there as they're known to prey on eggs and small birds

I'd say the breeding was a yes, since the pretty gal in Winged Sanctuary was moved there since she ate some chicks of an Oriole or so I've read somewhere

The Toco Toucan from Fragile Forest/Amazonian Jewels is a male ("Zorro"). There's only one other Toco Toucan left - the very elderly "Mrs Axel" that makes appearances during the Wings of the World show. The other toucan that was featured in Wings of the World named "Elmo" died somewhat unexpectedly recently.

Can anyone help me with the species of these 2 birds at Winged Sanctuary, based on the following descriptions:

1) A fruit dove(?) at the Sulawesi Myna + Java Sparrow aviary, has some pinkish color in its head and lower breast;
2) A broadbill with a turqoise-ish body and black+yellow head. Is it Long-tailed Broadbill? I couldn't recall whether it's in the aviary of Mindanao Bleeding-heart of Blue-winged Pitta

The fruit dove is Red-bellied Fruit-dove. The lone female Long-tailed Broadbill is with the Mindanao bleeding-heart, Silver-eared Mesia, Blue-crowned Hanging Parrots, yellow-breasted Fruit-dove, Asian Blue Quail

Some things from my recent visit:
1. The bee-eaters are still in quarantine. Currently, there is no plan to introduce them into the exhibit yet.
2. The Mauritius Pink Pigeons were not in their aviary. Probably phased out or offshow. Ditto with the Plumed Whistling Duck in Australian Outback.
3.There are now Rose-crowned Fruit Doves in the Sulawesi Mynah aviary.

U know where the Spix and Lear macaws went. I can't find any in the bird conservation area

It looks like quite a decent chunk of animal signboards were removed from Crimson Wetlands, especially the ones by the Hyacinth Macaw

Can anyone confirm if that's the case and what were removed? I'm not as good with Birds
