Bird Paradise Bird Paradise news 2025

41 of varying shape and sizes, all are in the Winged Sanctuary section of the park.
That's such a relief - whilst I love walk through aviaries, I love being able to get up close and personal with some of the smaller species

a few changes around Winged Sanctuary:

1. Oriental Pied and Southern Rufous Hornbills have swapped cages

2. all inhabitants of Twelve-wired and King BoP aviaries have swapped cages

3. Crested Quail-dove added to Golden-shouldered Parrot cage

4. European Turtle Dove added to Madagascar Blue Pigeon cage. not sure if its the 1.0 from HOA

5. Black-cheeked Lovebirds added to Northern Bald Ibis cage

I just noticed that the paddock for the Black-necked stork is larger than its previous area. Are they planning to get a new individual?

The last time I asked a keeper regarding this (As Mary was in the BoH area for maybe around 2-3 weeks during its construction) was just to improve Mary's enclosure space.

Is it possible to get another Asian Black-Necked Stork though? To my understanding there's not that many of this species in captivity and I doubt Mary would be of breeding age since she's very old

The Bali Mynas in Winged Sanctuary have taken over the Sumatran Laughingthrush enclosure, which in turn a pair of Western Long-Tailed Hornbills have taken over their enclosure.

I should also specify the Hornbills are not the ones in Heart of Africa, as they seem to be smaller and I spotted at least the male still in Heart of Africa on the same day (20 minutes ago)

Also not sure if it's super important, but the female White-Crowned Hornbill has been hiding inside of the custom breeding box, I doubt she's actually nesting since she's old but who knows

Additionally, I am currently unaware of the whereabouts of the Sumatrans

The male of the Sumatran Laughingthrush pair died recently. Not sure where the female is now. There are 2 breeding pairs of Western Long-tailed Hornbills.

Some updates regarding Songs of the Forest

1. The Sumatran laughingthrush has now taken residence in that aviary
2. The Azure-winged magpie has died
3. Both Satyr tragopans have died due to illness
Sad news on the Tragopans. I liked how they added a challenge factor to looking for the birds in the SOTF aviary. I was rather excited for their reappearance in the collection, having no recollection of the ones in Jurong.

2.2 Macleay's Fig-Parrot are set to be sent to Bird Paradise from Taronga Zoo
The parrots have arrived yesterday and will be released into either Australian Outback or Mysterious Papua in the next month or so
Is that a confirmed thing or are you guessing? Given how small they are, and the only ones outside Australia, it seems unlikely that they would be released into such big aviaries rather than being kept separately.

This came from a keeper that I spoke to on the day that I visited as a guest. I mean plans are subjected to change which is very common in this park, but if there are any changes, it will be reported by either myself or someone else

Not sure if anyone here is aware, but on Eid Al-Fitr (Hari Raya Puasa), the Saddlebill Stork in HoA laid eggs. I can't recall if they only have one stork in the collection at the moment or if they have a pair, can anyone confirm?

If they indeed have a pair, I hope that we will hear good news soon!

IIRC, I saw 2 individuals 2-3 weeks ago and there has been a pair since the park opening.
