Bird Paradise Bird Paradise news 2025

Today's updates:

- The Blue-Eared Pheasant, Copper Pheasant and thankfully the Southern Screamers too have signboards installed

- The Kagu female in the Raggiana Bird-of-Paradise enclosure has seemingly started nesting

- The Saddlebill female has laid eggs once again! This time a pair. Hoping for better luck this time.

- There's a Black-Casqued Hornbill female in the Heart of Africa holding cage. This isn't the same female as the one in Winged Sanctuary or Fragile Forest (As far as I'm aware since allegedly that female is meant to be sent abroad, may be wrong on this part)

Additionally, I've gotten news from a friend that the Brahminy Kites in the show are now released as a group during their segment.

Mandai has 2.3 Black-casqued Hornbills. So the one in the HOA holding cage is probably the 3rd female that has been kept off show.

1. Mysterious papua is stripped of Iris Lorikeets and Lesser Birds-of-paradise I've been hearing they are all sent to the Breeding and Research centre

The Iris Lorikeets have returned to Mysterious Papua, only saw 2 so I'm unsure if there's more but it's wonderful to see them again.

Is there a good place to see the Copper pheasants in Wings of Asia? I've seen the Golden and Blue-eared pheasants in the bamboo grove area by the stairs but never the copper ones.

Today's (mostly) small updates from Winged Sanctuary:

The original Negros Bleeding-Heart enclosure currently doesn't have any individuals within the habitat, with their new official habitat currently being with the Madagascar Blue Pigeon. I'm sure the future species photographers coming to the park will be happy with this change. The Macleay's and most of the other residents though still remain in the enclosure.

Former Blue-Crowned Laughingthrush enclosure only houses Baya Weavers currently as the Grey Peacock-Pheasants moved to Wreathed Hornbill enclosure.

There's a Helmeted Currasow with the Western Long-Tailed Hornbills in Winged Sanctuary.

Extra empty signboard slots have been inserted by the Twelve-Wired Bird-of-Paradise enclosure. Not sure if it's repairs for the Vietnam Pheasant or they're prepping something extra there.

Should the scientific name for the Goldie's Lorikeet be Glossoptilus goldiei instead of Psitteuteles goldiei?

All Blue-crowned Laughingthrushes have moved to Wings of Asia. And the Negros bleeding-hearts over there are all males FYI

I visited in September '23 and my favourite aviary was Crimson Wetlands due to all the beautiful Macaws flying around. I visited on 6 Sep '25 and was very sad to see not a single Macaw anywhere in the park. Is this a mass relocation? I read back through the thread and only saw mention of some blues.

There are still macaws at Crimson wetlands. Namely:
13.5 Scarlet macaw
2.7 Hyacinth macaw
1.0 military macaw
3.4 Buffon’s macaw
1.1 Green-winged macaw
0.5 Red-fronted macaw
2.5 Blue-headed macaw
2.0 Blue-winged macaw
1.1 Red-bellied macaw
1.0 Red-shouldered macaw

You probably visited at a bad timing because during feeding times they are very active.

The Hyacinths were put back of house for a short time but currently they're back in the aviary. Typically the macaws hate it when it's the hot afternoons and will retreat to roost in the afternoon heat.

As Nadchew mentioned they're very active during feeding time and around the cooler parts of the afternoon, though it's also up to them whenever they went to be out

Thanks. Good to know they're still there, but I'm still sad I didn't get to see them flying around. I checked my photos from the aviary and they were taken around 10:30 - 10:41.

I still find it amazing that I did not spy a single one with more than 50 present! I was convinced they were gone. It was certainly starting to heat up by that time, though.

Great list of the beautiful macaws! Thanks so much! By the way, does Bird Paradise house the Blue-and-yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna) as well?

There is also Blue-Throated Macaws inside. Try to listen out for them, they are the smallest of the big 7 and the highest in pitch. I remember there were 11 inside but seldom come out and some of them can be a nuisance.

I typically get to see the Blue-Throateds during feeding time but typically 3 at most scattered around the aviary, most often with the main macaw feeding area and the one closer to the Ibises and Spoonbills
