Twycross Zoo Birds for the 'New England' Aviary

I had a look at the list of bird species on the Twycross Zoo web-site then got numbers from ISIS . I assume at least some of these will be for the new aviary -

Striated Heron 1.0
Ringed Plover 0.2
Redshank 0.0.3
Purple Swamphen 1.0
Pied Avocet 0.0.9
Little Bittern 2.2

Some nice species , particularly the Little Bittern . They also have 0.2 European Rollers which I think are new as are a pair of Darwin's Rhea .

The overall bird collection at Twycross now includes some very interesting and unusual species .

Maybe they expect to generate some additional revenue from hiring out a very unique conference space? If so, of course they would design the exhibit so as to minimise the unwashed masses peering in at delegates

They do mean the New England in the USA. And no, they're not big ones for zoogeography (see previous discussion of the Bornean Longhouse Aviary!).


This new aviary is also part of the 'HIMALAYA' entrance complex...

Seeing Himalaya and the new entrance complex yesterday, I think that the aviary will be walk through, as there are gates on the outside, and the new zoo signs showed a path leading through the aviary and into the main concourse. And I liked the leafcutter ants in the toilets!

The gates you saw are there so that the people using the conference centre can get to it without having to use the main entrance of Himalaya.

You now seem to be able to book Sunday lunch in the Windows on the Wild room with views of the aviary.

Adelaide Zoo has a similar design for some of their toilets but the aviaries can still be seen from the outside. Seeing hyacinth macaws and sun conures whilst your in the bathroom is a bit fun.

I heard about some commercial animal park in Asia. Whole bar is glass-sided and build inside lion exhibit. So you try to pee and a lion watches you intensely. Unnerving
