Yes and Yes,although the enclosure has been rebuilt pretty much on the same site in the Centre,as the old Lion enclosure was in what was the old Birmingham Zoo which is now part of the current site!

I think they still do hold a Lynx, I think sub-species is Lynx.l.lynx I think the enclosure is from the old 'Birmingham Zoo'.

@RTB1987 looking at the map of Birmingham Zoo in the Birmingham Nature Centre Gallery after you entered through the old entrance as you turned left Towards the now Lynx enclosurer it shows the enclosure used to hold Camels and the Lion enclosure was to the right just past the Cafe.

Edit - they may have moved the lions there later but can not find any map with the lions in that area of the zoo.
Will be visiting the Centre on Wednesday so if anyone wants any photographs please let me know.

BNC has now recieved a female Red Panda to join the resident male who arrived back in July 2011.. Her name is Amba and she's come from Dudley Zoo (where she was born in 2011) Am I right in thinking that she's the first female they have housed?

Visited today and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of work taking place, lemur enclosure is looking good, will be interesting to see them out in it, red pandas were very active with the female(?) running around the enclosure floor and I was told the ocelots could be on display within a month but depends on the builders. A great visit if a little wet and windy, looking forward to returning in a few weeks!

Ditto Maz - I've never been to this collection and it's deveeloping nicely so a visit is on the cards. Dudley too as I've never been there either.
It's a very nice collection, a pleasant but small area with some decent enclosures and is easily do-able with the nearby(ish) Dudley in the same day. If you come in the summer then hopefully everything will be open and all the newer species will be on display!
As an aside, mazfc, the centre has quite a few small primates. From what I've read on here, primates are one of your personal favourites and you won't be dissapointed by the standards of their displays!

The only drawback is given the small size of the place it seems fuller than it actually is and some exhibits do get crowded. Off-peak it can still seem quite busy, yesterday for example was quite quiet but the cafe was absolutely full when it started raining. Compared to the larger zoos it's not easy to lose the crowds.
Hopefully you enjoy your visit, if you fancy a zoochat meet up then send me a PM and I'll see what I can do. This applies to anyone, just try and give me a bit more than 12 hours notice!

ooo sounds good. OK I will wait, don't worry I'm a corporate slave too so it'll either be a weekend or I'll have a day off and make a long weekend of it to cover a few places.and I reciprocate too, my home zoo is Chester but I frequent Knowsley Safari Park & Welsh Mountain too as they are both easily accessible from my den!

Owing to the fact I work for a faceless retailler who shall remain nameless (Sainsburys), it's gonna be 50/50 that I'll be working that weekend but with enough notice I should be able to swing it. I did it last time with 12 hours notice, so a few days/week should be good enough!
And if I'm in your neck of the woods (highly doubtful in the nearish future, more likely towards the end of summer), I'll definitely give you a shout... Or should that be a rasping sound?
