This place doesn't seem to have any entries so here goes.
Went here for the first time in a few years, last time I went I was disapointed because I thought it looked very run down and the animals didn't seem to have clean pens or much room, however things have changed for the better, the place looked good and for an entrance of just £3 it's well worth going.
The main reason for me going was to see the lynx, and I wasn't disapointed as I saw 4 of the beauties, although one was looking over weight and another had a bad eye. Happily unlike many places that keep cats there 4 had a decent sized pen, and they all looked happy and active.
Other highlights are 2 ocelots, two types of lemurs ( ring tailed and black and white ruffed), otters, meerkats, wildcat, red panda, porcupines and beaver (sadly I didn't see them!).
It's only a small place and has an unusual mix of animals but good value for anyone with an hour to spare in Birmingham.
I'll try to load a lynx pix soon.

i went there last year and thought it was very good value for money (it cost me something like 50p to get in). although very small it fits in quite alot like the only active porcupines i've seen.

where are the ocelots kept as they weren't there last time i went? the beavers have been replaced with short clawed otters, and last time i went they only had ruffed lemurs not the ring tailed. :)

Foz,
The ocelots are opposite the lynx, and I was surprised to see them too, with something this exciting I think Birmingham City Council (who owns the place) should be doing more to promote the place, and not only that make it bigger as yesterday the place was paced so it seems there is a need for a bigger zoo / nature centre in Birmingham.
Sadly for me the porcupines were doing what all porcupines do when I'm around - sleep! But I did count that they have 8 of them, but have a very basic pen so maybe they just want to sleep.
The beavers now have a new pen, witha small den it in, so that's why I didn't see them (although who's to tell they are even in there anyway!)
I read that the ruffed lemurs had a baby in April but there was no sign of him / her, guess it's still too young to be on display.

sorry to be a pain but the lynx were in a temporary cage last time i went so i still have no idea where the ocelots are...oh well suppose this means i just have visit again (woe is me ;))

Well they are also by the red pandas if that's any help, they don't have such a big pen, but maybe this is temporary too as they seem to be new arrivals.
The lynx have a very spacious enclosure which is good to see.

I've not been to BNC for a good few years. If the Lynx are still where they were when I last saw them then they are in the original Lion enclosure. This used to be Birmingham Zoo (opened by Dudley) of course. Somehow the city could not support a full-blown zoo.

Yes you will easily find them as it's not very big.
By the way the only mara I saw was in with the guinea pigs!

Can you explain this quote to me please?
Do you mean BNC used to be called Birmingham Zoo, or was it another place in another area?
And what was opened by Dudley? It's all news to me, but I'd be interested to learn.

Yes BNC did used to be Birmingham Zoo although the site was much smaller than present site you actual pass through the old entrance to the zoo while you are walking about the centre.

monkeys

Yes Birmingham Zoo was owned by Dudley Zoo and housed Dudleys Monkey collection,I can vaguely remember it, it also had Red Kangaroos,Llamas, Camels and Tayra.

So birmingham City Council must have taken over the centre from Dudley Zoo? Why did Dudley Zoo stop using it, was it lack of funds?
