It's Golfodulcean, I spelt it wrong. Try this page

www.reio.net/amph/exfrog/dendro/phyllo/vitta.htm

Sorry I couldn't copy the link. You can also search of images of Phyllobates vittatus or Golfodulcean Poison Dart (or Poison Arrow, or Poison) Frog. I tend to search for the Latin name it's more efficient.

P.S.

Just saw the link has copied. Don't know how I did it.

Elephant birth.

Which elephant has given birth in 2007? The last one I know of was Thi's male calf born in November 2006...

I can't find anything on the new elephant. I was sure I saw a male calf had been born on the afternoon of 19th May, but I have searched again for a link to no avail. If the information is accurate the mum is probably Sithami. Other that that the only explaination is that I have imagined it. The prersenter made no mention of a new baby during her talk today.

I must apologise to all members who have read this thread. Chester Zoo has not bred an elephant this year. I was convinced I saw on the web a male baby had been born at 1615 on 19th May. I don't know why I think this, it is not true and I can't find any link remotely like that which I though I saw. The last baby elephant to be born at Chester was in November 2006.

Two elephants have recently been born in Europe at Berlin and Dublin, but nothing at Chester.

I got it wrong big time. Sorry

Oh well, We all make mistakes!!

I heard that they bred about 4 marsh turtles last year, Was this one on the list bred this year?

Are there going to be any babies from the warty pigs or the Curassow soon?

The Warty Pigs are probably too young. Marsh Turtles have bred this year. I expect it is hoped the curassows will breed again, don't know if they've laid or not. When I visited the zoo on 23rd May I saw a pregnant Przewalski's Horse. Maybe you'll be lucky and see a foal when you go.

Maybe you dreamt it....;)

I had a funny dream that a small flock of miniature goats attcked me with spoons....Scary.......

When I went to the zoo last August, The pair of Curassow in the tropical realm had an egg. Are the pair in the Mythical macaws aviary going to breed. I seem to remember hearing that they were related.

Chester has a very good record for breeding curassow so why doen't it move on to the blue billed currasow. They could move the pair from the tropical realm and put the blue bills in there.... Just a thought..

Another thought is a mixed exhibit between philippine spotted deer and Visayan warty pig. I've seen wild boar with Wapiti, So pigs and deer can mix. They could also put a net over the top of the exhibit and move a pair of Writhe-billed hornbills in!!!

That makes sense. They must be the 2 young born at Chester over the past few years. Maybe they could swap the female for another from antwerp. Antwerp has a very good curassow breeding record and have the one of the largest collections of these birds.

I still think Chester should get the blue bills though.........

Most of the parrots have laid this year and efforts are being made to improve diets even furthur.

is there a chance of this years breeding list?

I might have to be done manually at the moment by some knowledgable members.

Off the top of my head:

Visayan Warty Pig - (I think there were 5 from 2 females, but only 2 are left if I remember rightly...)
Babirusa - 0.1
Scimtar-Horned Oryx - 4 calves
Azara's Agouti - 4 young
Asian Lion - 1 cub
Re River Hog - DNS
Colombian Black Spider Monkey - at least 1 young
Komodo Dragon - 1.0
Humboldt's Penguin - can't remember the total figure
Madagascan Radiated Tortoise
Visayan Tarictic Hornbill
Writhed Hornbill
Hyacinth Macaw
