Edinburgh Zoo Births in 2009

the baboons have settled in really well, on my last two visits i have spent over an hour watching them! the youngsters seem to be quite cheeky and very boystrous!

not had a chance to speak to the primate keepers as they have looked quite harassed by the fugitive macaques recently but will find out more on my next visit

as a side note - the last two fugitive barbary macaqueus were caught up at 5.55pm on Friday - all 5 are being held in the monkey house just now while the Maintenance Team work on re-enforcing Barbary Rock

Aw the maned wolves are really coming on saw all 3 pups sunday at the zoo and yet again was lucky enough to see the baby ant eater love these fascinating animals shows how well they pair have settled in their surroundings and feel comfortable enough to breed :)

was at the zoo on sunday and glad to update this thread to say there was a pudu birth on 9th july!!

this is the first born to young father Normski and mother Eva, and the three of them are housed in the enclosure closest to the entrance of the Monkey House

the pair further along nearer the Bush Dogs have not bred yet, they are called Nelson & Mia (Eva's big sister)

Eva & Mia's parents are the very successful breeding pair Amber & Henry who are housed behind the cassowary, across from the scottish wildcats

if my memory serves me right, i believe they have successfully bred 5 times?? feel free to correct me....i do remember one of their sons passed away a few years ago....with the other foals moving to other collections

Thank you. I saw the fawn when I visited in July, but I did not manage a photo. I did get a shot of the father, so this must be Normski.

when you say the bush baby do you mean the moholi galago? as there are only three other zoos in europe which keep them.

Sorry to report was at the zoo sunday and was saddened to hear that the 2 tundra reindeer calves have sadly died :( was speaking to a keeper!!!!

0.0.3 lilac breasted rollers successfully fledged in the African aviary, added to one which fledged in June a good first breeding for Edinburgh.

I've yet to see the warthog babies as they have only been out when I've been busy on my volunteer duties but quite a few people have seen them. It's still early days on the King penguin chick but look forward to it doing well and the official announcement! That will be a real achievement and the information gained fro what has been adjusted to achieve this will be useful to other zoos as well. Let's hope, not only that it is healthy, but a female! Apparanetly there is a shortage of female King penguins for some reason.
The King penguin chick will probably be hailed as, scientifically, the most important birth at the zoo this year.

Jealous much?

Will keep you posted. In fact, it/they might have already been born, havent been at the zoo in a while.

But what i can tell you is that there are about 8 or 9 (on my count) pregnant squirrel monkeys at living links, and we are rapidly approaching their birthing season!

Certainly not jealous but if you are now saying that squirrel monkey babies are due then just say that in the first place. Maybe it's just me but I prefer people just to post what they know instead of messages that just hint at something, and if they can't say yet what it is, just wait till you can.
