if you travel to zoos alot by train they do a little thing called a plus bus which is bus travel around an area for like 1 trips cost. but be careful with chester it ends at chesire oaks so the drivers get confused. (for GB only i think)

Victoria has a similiar thing...There isn't much to like about the vline system but one of the best initiatives they have is that if you buy a vline ticket to Melbourne from a rural area (Bendigo counts as rural) you get free trips on all of the trains and trams in zone one and 2 for free. Because I can get concession tickets it costs me like $7 something for a train to Melbourne and then trains and trams all day in the city.

This page shows Upton included in Plus Bus from Chester, so it ought to be valid on buses to Chester Zoo.

National Rail Enquiries - Special Offer - PLUSBUS - Chester

There is a free bus for rail passengers starting soon from the railway station to the zoo for the summer season.

I usually get the train from Stoke to Chester, and rebook Chester to Bache and use the Merseyrail electric train. Then walk up the road (15 minutes).

If I'm feeling energetic I sometimes walk from Chester to the zoo.
