1949 the Bronx Zoo recieved 7 Black Guineafowl ( Agelastes niger ) from the well-known animal-catcher Charles Cordier.
1957 the Zoo Antwerp also recieved 6 specimens from which one lived till at least 1963.
On the Internet I found a picture of a female at Antwerp Zoo ( or Plackendael - which was at that time their breeding-station ) but nothing else can be found on the captive-experience with this species
Does anyone know something about the New York animals - sexes, did they produce eggs ( or even chicks ) and how long did they survaived.
The same I want ot ask about the Antwerp animals

www.Zootierliste.de inform that this species was also in Chester Zoo (1963-1964, no breeding).
In book "Fasanen und andere Huhnervogel" by Curt von Wissel and Max Steffani from 1966 on page 244 are two pictures of Agelastes niger from Antwerpen Zoo (including one with three birds).

We could end up with confusion here between the wild species known as the Black Guineafowl, & black forms of the Domestic [Helmeted] Guineafowl.
