Blackpool Zoo Blackpool Zoo News 2022

Great to hear about the new tiger. I visited the zoo in June and kaye was alone and the other 5 together but all seemed happy and well. I guess Kate might like her own space considering she is elderly but at least she has the opportunity to socialise when she wants. Does anyone have any updates on the new big cat house on my visit in June the tunnel was open but only the Meerkats were there

It has also been reported on social media that Luka, the Amur tiger born at Banham in 2021 is heading to Blackpool once the new house is complete.
So are they bringing the old female tiger back or getting a new female aswell as There is a big age gap between the two

Where did you see that please?
If you go onto Blackpool Zoo’s Facebook page - there’s a post from a regular from Banham Zoo who has stated the following:

Luka will be off to Blackpool Zoo when their Tiger exhibit is complete, as part of the breeding program, but until then, both he and his sister can be seen daily at Banham Zoo. Happy birthday Cubs!

Again, please note I use the word reported, so not 100% confirmed as of yet, the zoo hasn’t announced any plans so far regarding which tigers will be arriving, previous updates state Alyona will be returning and the new lion pride will be built around Khari upon his return.

Pretty sure evie was younger than tiye. I thought tiye was the oldest

So Tiye was born 2008, Olympia born 2012, unsure about Eve as she came from Ireland. There was O'Grady(who was female) as well who was born here in 2009. Now with only 0:2 left its a shame. Wonder when these died, anyone on here know the last time there were 3/4?

Had a great visit today. Was cold and most animals were indoors. Nice to see Kate in with the ex twycross girls today as I haven't seen her in with them before. Work on the big cat house looks to be coming along nicely. The framework looks to be up now and looks much bigger than previous. Some of the old fence line is now being taken down. The only access to the giraffes is by a path which I think is new as I don't recall seeing it before and it is between the tapir paddock and the ariary. Only other change is that there are 3 sea lions living in the tapir pool area due to maintenance work on the current pool. The displays are still running in the normal pool but in bewltween the display the sea lions are off show. The new orang seems to have settled in well and was interacting with all the females

Interesting, I thought she's always been grouped with them since they arrived from Twycross. In the past was she by herself when she wasn't with them?

Well the girt tins I visited project elephant was after the arrival of Tara and Minbu from twycross and all 3 were together. I then visited after the arrival of Noorjahan and esha and Kate was on her own. I have visited a few times since the bull arrived and she was still alone but on my most recent visit I went to see the elephants twice. The first visit Kate was separated from the other 5 but later on the bull had been separated and Kate was in with the other cows.

I was going to ask about this, good to hear that the new enclosures are coming along nicely. If they're ready by Summer I'll arrange another visit to see them.

Yes it is supposed to be completed by spring which I think that they could be on track if they continue over winter.

The last time I visited was in the August of 2020 - in the COVID lull of the summer - and all the females were together. Of course I don't know if this was before Emmett arrived.

EDIT: Quick Google reveals that no it was not.
