I hope you guys in the UK will post a few pics of your zoo visits this spring and summer, oh dont forget a few shaps shots of the Okapis and Indian rhinos, hehe.

I haven't seen the Indian Rhino at Chester yet and my okapi pictures are awful. I can however post a picture of the Black lion Tamarin if you want. There is a pair at Chester and We saw them when we last went.

Jonathan you were asking about Albinos yesterday, well news JUST to hand, a baby Green turtle has just hached on Lady Elliot island off the coast on north Queensland that is pure white with blue eyes, all the other babys were normal colour, it was released along with all the others.

I guess it may well be, it will just have to take the risk like all the others, i guess they will know if it made it in 20 years time.

Then again , The predators might be a bit suspicious of it and leave it well alone. I'm sorting out my photos and soon I'll have them on the web.

Well, It must be only one of a handful to hold the helmeted curassow. They're really rare in zoos. Not as rare as the blue billed but that's something totally off topic.

Blackpool zoo has one pair of Northern Helmeted Curassow, they also still have Turkmenian Markhor. Edinburgh are also importing this species.

Oops, sorry for the confusion. Edinburgh are expecting Markhor and they will be going on to the Highland Wildlife Park.

Blackpool Zoo

I hear Blackpool has been bought out and has big plans for the next couple of years. Lions, giraffes, penguins and rhino have been mentioned. Good luck to them - it's a popular little zoo and has come a long way since the council sold it.

Didn't Blackpool breed southern white rhinos from just a pair back in the 1970s?

For a small zoo with humble beginnings, Blackpool have a lot of unusual animals. I hope that this buyout will give them the opportunity to improve upgrade the zoo as to me its always looked a bit shabby(starting with the carpark area and entrance...) and 'short of cash' Some additional exhibits in the central area might help too as that's a bit empty.

A new entrance opened at Blackpool about two years ago and is much more spacious. The original entrance was very cramped.

The previous owners did intend to full in the oppen space in the middle of the park. No doubt the new owners will announce their intentions soon.

They've got the potential there to make it something very good- if they want to and they have the right personell.
