I have just heard that Blackpool Zoo have a new tiger to replace Jagazar who died recently. Does anybody know anything about the new one? where he is from? who he is related to and do they intend bread from him? etc.:)

His name is Zambar. He was born and handreared at Marwell Zoo in March 2004. His parents are Marwell's retired breeding pair Gamin and Yenna. He has a sister at Howletts. He is having a mate from Whipsnade Zoo called Anastaia. He hasn't arrived yet but is due to move next monday (1st febuary) Anastatia will join him later this year.

This has been widely discussed on Zoochat already.

Thanks for the info. I had looked on Zoochat but could not find anything on this subject, which section is the discussion in as I would like to read it?

Picture of Zambar

Hi jb.lancashire,

I took a picture of Zambar last Saturday at Marwell.

You can find him by clicking on the following link and scrolling down the page. They were uploaded 3 days ago (Saturday 23 January).

It's great that the tigers are arriving, but i hope they have updated the inside part of the enclosure and more enrichment will be done for the cats .

Still a big cub in my opinion; loves messing about, be it with a bit of grass or the vistors on the other side of the viewing window. But he has been accepted by not just his father but also an unrelated male rival to Dad at a young age, so he has a healthy respect for other tigers. Combined with his physical state, this makes him an ideal breeding tiger and I wish the best of breeding luck to him and Anastasia in hope of lots of little Zambars. :D

You take care of Marwell's beloved Zambar! Lol! Good luck to him and Anastasia and I hope Blackpool sees little Zambar's soon enough! :)

I am sure he will be very well looked after, his predecessor Jagazar lived to be about 19 years old so I am sure the staff must know what they are doing:)

Just checked Blackpool's facebook, and it confirms Zambar has arrived safely and is starting to settle in.

Re Zambar's arrival at Blackpool

Great to here he has arrived and is starting to settle in.

Can our Zoo chat friends who visit Blackpool zoo please keep his Marwell friends updated on how he is doing.

We will all miss him.

Thanks jb.lancashire

Hi jb.lancashire,

Thanks for the link.

Its great to see Zambar looking relaxed in the snow.

According to the news page paperwork is delaying the arrival of Anastatia from Whipsnade.

Zambar was allowed access to his outdoor area for the first time yesterday although he was a bit of a scaredy cat and stayed indoors! He has made it out today though according to the Blackpool Zoo Facebook page.
