Blair Drummond Safari & Adventure Park Blair Drummond Safari Park News

A two and half year old hybrid female Giraffe named Ruby has arrived from Banham Zoo recently. The park now has 0:4 Hybrid Giraffe

Courageous that Blair Drummond Safari Park - in its transformation towards a modern-day open range zoo - is taking on this sometimes under-valued task of providing accomodation for hybrids in order to benefit the entire breeding programme.

Incidentally, is there a long term plan or Masterplan for Blair Drummond available??? Be very interested to know and learn!

Now been confirmed via Facebook that another 0:2 Giraffe will arrive shortly. Chester's final hybrids, Kelly and her calf Bella from 2009 should be heading for Blair Drummond towards the end of this month :) Chester will then have a pure Rothschild herd.

Or possibly it might be simply because to them a 'giraffe is a giraffe' and by taking in the surplus hybrids they can ultimately exhibit a bigger group. But the benefits are the same to all parties involved.

Bimbo came from Blackpool as Blackpool now have a new male Max(Sea Lions)
So The Rothschild Giraffe numbers at BDSP are 0:6?(giraffe)
Regards Jordan.

In my book: both collections hold only hybrid giraffe.
(as per EEP instructions)

I am surprised that Blackpool should have a new male giraffe?
(IMO they only hold 0.6 hybrid giraffe).

Hybrids at Blair Drummond:
F 1 ?
F 2 ?
F 3 Sophie ex Dudley
F 4 Ruby ex Banham
F 5 Kelly ex Chester
F 6 Bella ex Chester (calf to Kelly)

Blackpool do not have space to hold a male they originial took 0.3 from Fota then another 0.2 arrived and these two were pregnant Timber was the first to be born he was a male at 18 months old Timber was moved to Folly Farm and renamed Rian.
The second calf was a female this time and is still currently at Blackpool and she is O'Grady:)
Regards Jordan.

Just a question then why in your previous post do you mention that Blackpool have a new male called Max,yet in this one you suggest that Blackpool only has females, can you please explain this,as i thought Blackpool only held female hybrid Giraffe`s now?

Is there any chance Jordan is referring to sea lions (Bimbo and Max) in an answer to the previous post? I'm not very good with animal names but that may make a bit more sense.

Ah cool thanks. Is anything being done to the actual exhibit this season or is it just transfers?

Then in future can you please put the species for those of us who aren`t mind readers or do not know what the individual animals are called!!

Why are you so rude? I have noticed previous posts by you that are condescending and try to make feel people feel stupid but thought I would just leave it but it is constant. Jordan made a simple mistake, it's not the end of the world. This is meant to be a friendly place for people to discuss issues, if you keep up your attitude people will not bother.

Sorry if you don`t like my style of posting or my attitude problem, there is nothing i can do about that, but there is something you can do about as you can put me on your ignore list so that you cannot read anything I put on here!
Not everyone on here knows the name of every animal in every zoo in the UK,I for one certainly don`t and it does help if people put what species they are talking about instead of just the name of the animal so that those of us who don`t know the names actually know what they are talking about!

um...now who's being rude?

Some sad news to start of a new year:(

Winter 2010 has been tough on all here at the park and it is with sadness we must say goodbye to one of our much loved zebras, Dolly. Dolly came to the park in 1990 and was Blair Drummond’s longest serving resident of the zebra enclosure. She was a good old age of 21 when she died of a degenerative liver condition. She will be sadly missed by the large mammal keepers and regular visitors to the park.

The news has only just been posted on the Parks website

Apparently more Hybrid female giraffe will be arriving later in the year to join the current 0:4

This was posted on Blair Drummond's facebook page:

Unfortunately our baby giraffe, born on Saturday 7th May has passed away.
The female was born with joint problems, and was unable to stand up and support her own weight. This news has saddened the large mammal keepers, and all of us here at the park

I take it that the mother is Kelly? (ex Chester) What a shame... :(
