Blair Drummond Safari & Adventure Park Blair Drummond Safari Park News

As far as I know Kelly had a F calf in September 2009 (while still at Chester) before.

Kelly had a female calf, Bella in August 2009 at Chester. I expect that this is a new calf that was conceived before she left on Chester on 17th November last year.

Bella also went to Blair Drummond but is too young to breed and as for the other females at BD, Ruby (ex Banham) is also too young and Sophie (ex Dudley) hadn't been with a male until April 2010 when Dudley received a male Rothschild from South Lakes and there was a two month window before she was shipped to BD in June 2010. Even if she conceived the day he arrived the calf wouldn't be born for another two months yet!

Having *just* watched it occur on webcam, there has been a rhino birth at Blair Drummond :)

Some sad news to start the year with. Hybrid Giraffe, Sophie (ex Dudley) passed away on 27th December aged 17. She arrived from Dudley in June 2010 following the arrival of their new Baringo bull from South Lakes. Blair Drummond is now left with 0:3 Giraffe (Kelly, Bella and Ruby)

New for 2012 is an Elephant House which will have public viewing. I have seen the plans online and it looks as though it will give the Elephants sand floors and 24 hour access to their paddock.
Will post pictures after I have visited next month.

Two female chimpanzees have arrived at Blair Drummond SP in Feb/March this year. I read on another thread the two females at Flamingoland were due to move to Blair Drummond so, might this be them?

I was at the park today and the guide on the boat ride to the Chimp Island said that the new Chimps came from Flamingoland.
Also a bear cub was born in January.

It seems that Blair Drummond have finally produced a Lion cub for the first time in a decade. She has been named Libby and is the first cub sired by ex Longleat male 'Dudley' or 'Mr Dudley'. Mother is Teekay.

The house looks recent, I was unaware they had upgraded their indoor facility for chimpanzees. Indeed this will be one of the better chimpanzee enclosures and I hope the group resume breeding in the next few years.

They started building this new complex atleast 4 years ago,I will go through my old notes and see if I can find which year I first saw any building work on the house!

Is this new chimp house on the island itself or on the 'mainland' ? How do the chimps access the house from the island?

As far as I can remember the old chimp housing was on the island and rather small and overgrown!

That's what I was thinking too. Last time I was at Edinburgh I only saw 2 red river hogs (was a few weeks ago now, of course the youngsters could have been inside the house, but they were just being fed which normally gets them all out)
