Blair Drummond Safari & Adventure Park Blair Drummond Safari Park News

It is good that more of the non-breeding F1 generation are bandied about the EAZA region. I am rather confident it will quite dramatically improve breeding.

Certinley seems to be having the desired effect... Munster have announced today that Jane, the cow that Blair Drummond exchanged with them in 2011 is now thought be expecting her first calf

Unconfirmed reports that Blair Drummonds first calf (Mazumba, born August 2007) has also become pregnant since her transfer to Beekse Bergen in 2010

Not news, just a question and an opinion, in true zoochatter style, what will happen to the old elephant house, once the new one is constructed?
In my opinion, it would make an ideal sized hippo house, with access to the boating area of the lake not too far away.
Another collection with hippos in the UK would always be very welcome.

I would think they may hold Hippos or maybe some surplus Congo or Cape Buffalo. I would hope that they may hold some Cape Buffalo from West Mid's.

I'm sure Blair Drummond had Common Hippos back in the 1970s/80s. Don't know how they housed them during winter.

The park now has red river hogs.

Glad so, the park is going from strength to strength.

Nice to see the major part of safari park land in the UK landscape changing for the better this way.

Cannot wait to hear what is next in store ... :)

I did wonder if they came from Edinburgh but ruled that out because they only appeared on show at Blair Drummond sometime between my visits of 29th August and 22nd of September.Their enclosure is opposite the birds of prey centre and was empty on my first visit.

From what you have said they have gone into the enclosure that was built to house,Edinburghs old Collared Peccary when they took them on when Edinburgh went out of that species.

I can confirm that to be the case from a recent visit.

Amur Tiger, Mischa has moved to Zoo Bourbansais, France this week

In his place at Blair Drummond has come female, Bella from Lisbon via Marwell

The park has now re-opened, (but closed today due to snow:rolleyes:)
New arrivals for the season include a common marmoset born as well as an eland.
Spectacled Owl a Red Legged Seriema and a young Bengal Eagle Owl have joined the bird of prey show.
A herb garden has been created for the residents of chimp island and later this year, work should begin on a new tiger house.

Also there are two keeper vacancies available. Seeking experienced keepers, all details on their website. A nice part of the world to work in.

HRH The Princess Royal (Ann to you and me), has officially opened the new African elephant habitat.

News

Apparently more Hybrid female giraffe will be arriving later in the year to join the current 0:4

Reviving an old thread: any idea when female Zoe left / died at Blair Drummond. Must have been late 2010 / early 2011 (if only 0.4 were held at the time)?

Afaik - as of July 2008 they'd got themselves down to 1.1 (Baringo female, Aoife and her hybrid calf, Wallace from 2005)

From memory there was no mention of a Zoe when the news page was updated with Samara's arrival from Chester (news page has now been deleted so I can't double check this)
