Hairdo O'Grady - Do you mean Sophie who came from Dudley in June 2010? She died on 27th December 2011 (Old age)

Samara died in January 2010 (old age again)

Correct on Harriet and Keisha's arrival. They came last October.

The current Blair Drummond herd now consists of... (this is to the best of my knowlage, if there has been a recent death/transfer/arrival then please correct me)

Kelly - ex Chester, ex Belfast (born May 2000)
Bella - ex Chester, daughter of Kelly (born August 2009)
Ruby - ex Banham (birth year, 2008?)
Harriet - ex Twycross, ex Kessingland, (born Summer 2005)
Keisha - ex Twycross (not 100% sure on year of birth, sorry!)

@Nisha

The giraffe female Zoe was born 20/9/1999 in Blair Drummond itself. She was sure alive through 2009 and into 2010 at B.D. Safari Park.

Now for something completely different: anyone visited B.D. lately? What is this about the African elephant exhibit and compound (said to be the most modern in the UK? Any news on how the chimps are doing in their island?

O'Grady is still at Blackpool to the best of my knowlage (they have lost a couple in recent years though, so not sure if she was one of them)

Surprisingly overlooked: Emmi, a female white rhino transferred from Muenster, BRD has been euthanized in mid March after a period of prolonged ill-health. In the last few weeks she had been on vet supervision and antibiotics, but unfortunately did no longer respond to treatment and a difficult decision was made.

Apparently, she had been pretty well relaxed after her move ... Surprisingly so, as he history of infanticide. She was actually moved to BD Safari in the hope that the successful breeding program there and the close proximity of a good dam in Dorothy might well have her acquire good mothering skills. Sadly, not to be in the end ...

African elephant, Estrella was PTS this morning at the age of 49: :(

Quote from Blair Drummonds Facebook

We are very sad to have to report that Estrella 49, our eldest resident African Elephant had to be put to sleep this morning.
Estrella, or Es as she was known, arrived here in 1997 at the age of 33 from a Spanish Zoo. She had tremendous character and was much loved by staff and visitors. She will be greatly missed.

Its been announced on the Scottish Deer centre's facebook that Nellie and Loki the European brown bears from Blair Drummond will soon be joining them.Nellie is Lokis mother so I'm guessing if they are both moving out either the male is returning to Blair Drummond from a breeding loan or the park are getting a new species.A small bit of other news from the park is a renovation of the sealion house which was long overdue in my opinion.

Nice addition, and crowd-puller, for the Deer Centre but I hope it doesn't signal Blair Drummond going out of bears (especially since their enclosure is a good one). Agree the Sea Lion House is due an overhaul -is the (animals) pool area being increased in size?

I would not think so ... in the last few years Blair Drummond has done a major overhaul of its exhibits. One by one it is being done and the collection is growing and diversifying.

Cannot wait to learn what the new species will be ...?
What is the current enclosure like?

No major changes to the collection for next weeks new season opening.
A petting barn and new pathways have been installed in the childrens farm area and a new roof on the sealion building.

I love the way the term 'Petting' (as in barn/farm/zoo etc) has come over from the US and is now used widely by animal collections here too. For me it still has rather different connotations....:);)

According to the park's 2014 map (1st time it has been published online) the Amur tigers are moving into the European brown bear enclosure.
The zebra have been moved into the main reserve and the ostrich have been moved in with the giraffes.

Plan your visit | Blair Drummond Safari Park

Ostiches and Giraffes seem a strange mix -though I have seen them in larger (more species) mixed "African Plains" exhibits in the past.

It looks from the map that the (now) old Tiger accommodation is being left unused/abandoned, it's a shame they didn't have the money and/or desire to retain both Bears & Tigers.
