Blair Drummond Safari & Adventure Park Blair Drummond Safari Park News

Scottish herald has an article suggesting the park is taking on 30 barbary macaques from Gibraltar. On my phone so failing to link the article but will try later if no one gets there first. Not confirmed by the park yet.

White Rhino, Angus (b11/2011) left for Paris zoological park this morning

The website has been updated with new species to the park, Macaque and Nilgai. It also talks about the new Tiger exhibit which according to the map was the old Bear exhibit. I intend to visit once the park reopens.

The bison have been shifted out of the their former drive through enclosure over the lake to a paddock beside the lemur walk through.
Their former home seems to be an Asian inspired mixed exhibit with the newly acquired nilgai and another new species for the park axis deer along with bactrian camels.
The Barabary macaque have been installed in the former Amur tiger enclosure, which is now an optional drive through.

Just to confirm, the tigers are now where the bears were (although most of the signs around the zoo still refer to them) and the house for the macaques stands where the tiger walkway once was. The drive-through part isn't yet open.

There are some images in the gallery, along with shots of the 'Elephant Habitat', which hasn't been featured on ZooChat.

It still isn't yet open as of two days ago (regardless of it being advertised on the front of their brochures which are distributed over a massive area) and, in my opinion, will struggle to finish much before the place closes for winter.

According to the parks facebook- "The park is excited to welcome 'Tswane' a Southern white rhino who will join our rhinos (Graham, Dot and Bruce) as part of the European Endangered Species Breeding Programme. The aim of the transfer is to increase genetic diversity within the captive insurance population.
Lucy, a rhino that has been here for three years has been transfered out to join the same collection (Zoo d'Amnéville) in France."

0.8 Burmese brow antlered deer have been sent to the park from Chester zoo to join the male in the collection.
0.0.1 axis deer born.

1.0 African lion has joined the pride, arriving from Emmen zoo, with the male "DUDLEY", going in the opposite direction.

Sad news today:

We are saddened to announce that our elephant Toto had to be put to sleep this morning after she collapsed in her pen.
Staff tried to get her back onto her feet but with no success and sadly after the park veterinarians’ thorough examination a difficult decision was made to euthanize Toto to avoid continued stress and suffering.
Over the years our elephant team have worked tirelessly improving the welfare standards of our elephants ensuring they receive the best daily care particularly during the later stages of their lives, her keepers are devastated but they all understand that this was the last option and necessary and most humane course of action to take.
46 year old Toto came to the park in 1997 from Basel Zoo in Germany, the same year that her companion Modula arrived from Erfurt Zoo also in Germany.

World Exclusive: we are expecting another rhino calf!
Mum, Dot, is due any day now meaning she will soon be the proud mother of five calves who live in various zoos throughout Europe!

Another Southern white rhino on the way.

A female Ruppell's griffon vulture has arrived at the park to be paired with the resident male.
