There are rumours that a group of senior staff had been fired in Rotterdam ZOO recently due to long planned cuts in cost. Any confirmation?

In march and april, two Reticulated Giraffes have been Born, a female and a male calf.
Two more will follow this year, - giraffes are pregnant.

And now my question, Father of this calves is a male call BANIO.
Need all Infos about him. (where he comes from?)

Thanks

Chloe (female) born on 19 March 2013 - Father Banio Mother Marian
Fabian (male) born on 8 April 2013 - Father Banio Mother Anne

I think Banio comes from Czechia, but I am not 100% sure.

One of Blijdorps favorite animal died yesterday. The Klipspringer had wounded it´s leg and didn´t recover from it :(

With-naped mangabey born recently.
In the Reptile-section : -Radiated tortoise
- Pancake tortoise
- Sailfin lizard

Blijdorp has recently received some Balabac mousedeer(Tragulus nigricans), they will be put on display next month in the new asian house.

Visited Rotterdam Zoo ( in the Netherlands better known as Blijdorp ) yesterday and it is one of the top-zoos in the Netherlands, Europe and prop. even the world !
I had expected not to see okapis, because the will leave the collection due to construction a new enclosure but was surprised at least one was still there !
White-nosed monkeys had an already larger young as did the Francois Leaf-monkeys from which I saw 4 in the main-enclosure. A fifth animals was housed at another place at the zoo in a holding-area not on public view.
In the Reptile raising-room several Radiated, Madagascar Spider and Pancake tortoises were displaye.
In the Bird-raising-room 3 Toco tucans are handraised ( hatched earlier this month ).
The newly opened Amazonica-hall - mainly for butterflies but also some reptiles and latter fish - looked great but still a little bar, the plants have to grow still a lot for a real jungle-feeling comes-up !
A lot of birds were breeding ( Yellow-throated Laughing thrush, Red-whiskered bulbul, balck-chinned fruit-dove ) in the old Riviera-hal.

New Asian lion male expected for during June / July ex Singapore Zoo! :)

Building work is still proceeding both in- and outdoor. One could not get a glimpse from the Riviera Hall as shutter doors block entrance from both the main hall and the Gorilla side gallery. The stall doors on the front are to open up somehow onto the outdoor yards for rhinos. Pool is dug out and visible and various moats are lined up throughout the exhibit. The backyard for pygmy hippo was also much up in relandscaping outside yard.

Nice, but still not quite there yet ...

Recent births and hatchlings :
1.1 Thomson gazelles
1 Forest reindeer ( a first-time birth for Rotterdam Zoo )
2.0 Californian Sea-lions ( a thirds female being still pregnat )
1 Puffin

Some good news from Rotterdam Zoo :
Mountain chickens ( a rare and endangered frog-species ) have 2 fowm-nests
Fishing cats, 2 kittens born
Prince Alfred deer 1 young born

Very hot news : At 5 AM this morning an Asian Elephant born at Rotterdam Zoo ! Mother is Tron Nhi and the young is prop. a girl !

The first Black Rhino has arrived - female, Naima came from Leipzig yesterday (reported elsewhere that bull, Vungu is due to come from Howletts shortly to join her)

Have the final Indian Rhinos left Rotterdam now, or are they still on site?
