Does anyone know of any updates regarding elephants Trong Nhi and Nhi Linh’s transfer to the US? I believe the move is supposed to happen very soon, and I’m very excited and hopeful it comes to fruition!

So... Call me stupid, but what happened to the Riviéra hall? I visited yesterday and spent half an hour looking for the terrariums.
For how long has it been a pathetic indoor playground?

That's a shame, but ZTL still lists the elephant shrews and a few others as being in the Riviéra hall

Some other things I noticed on my visit:
- The red-legged seriemas have a chick, as well as the crested wood partridges in the Victoria hall
- The black-and-rufous sengis have a baby in their exhibit, but I'm fairly certain he's been around for a while
- A hooded vulture has escaped? I noticed one sitting on the wrong side of the aviary. I'd say he was from the bird show, but I heard that the show was cancelled permanently
- Face masks have been added to the plastic exhibit in Oceanium. Which isn't real news, but I did find it a funny addition

Elephants shrews are next to the gorilla in de Riviéra hall while some bird species live in the other wing with the tropical garden (victoria-serre etc,). So there are still animals within the complex.
Although the bird show has stopped they sometimes still fly with the animals I believe.
That the hall was badly in need of refurbishment has been known for closer on 2 decades now. The real rot started when the greater part of the specialised reptile and amphibian collection was shut down on the complex and a kids' play hall area with refectory came up in its place. Not doing anything is just waiting for the inevitable. It has been clear from the outset that with Outside funding, primarily Municipal and State for cultural Heritage, the building is a disaster waiting to come down. ATM ... it still is, no change and no funding in sight to Wholesale renovatie the building.
Another thing I just realised that I noticed, the Sudan plated lizards are either gone or behind the scenes
To my knowledge we still have one individual, allbeit behind the scenes.
Other news:
- New in the Rotterdam Zoo: Camponotus nicobarensis, an Asian ant species. Now on display in the Asia House, in the former Oriental garden lizard terrarium. They nest inside a live Dischidia plant.
- Birth of 1.1 California sea lions (beats me how there's still space for them in European zoos).
- The education in the vulture aviary was updated.
- The Java sparrows have moved from the Komodo enclosure to the small aviary across from the bantengs and blackbucks.
- The Palawan peacock-pheasants have moved from the Nature Conservation Centre in the Oceanium to Taman Indah.
- Two crested wood patridges have moved into the Nature Conservation Centre.
- Birth of an eider at Bass Rock, a purple glossy-starling starling in the weaver aviary, some Himalayan monals in the big Asian aviary and a hooded vulture in the vulture aviary
- Nesting activity in the Victoria Serre of the Rivièrahal: Bali mynas, grosbeak starlings, emerald doves and speckled mousebirds
- Two tigers that were born in Rotterdam and since moved to other zoos have died: Vanni (2010) in Frankfurt and Binjai (2002) in Melbourne.

Interesting! I saw the two vultures on the nest (which they built inside the viewing hut), but wasn't sure if they were breeding or not

I know this is definitely not the right thread but I am new to the forum and I have been desperately searching for images of the old crocodile enclosure in the Rivièrahal. I was wondering if anyone has some pictures of the old gallery and the crocs in their old enclosure or if they could point me to the right thread.

I have been frantically searching for images of the old enclosure for a couple of years now, I even e-mailed Blijdorp itself to see if they had any pictures in their archive but even they didn't have them. Seems like these pictures are pretty rare nowadays. I remember the gallery which was above the enclosure. The enclosure was pretty small and outdated but such was everything in the Rivièrahal with it being post-WW2 enclosures. While the current crocodile river is a way better and more animal-friendly enclosure, the old Ravesteyn enclosure had a certain kind of romance and tense to it. I hope that some day someone finds some old printed out copies of photos in their attic.

EDIT: What is worse to me is that the enclosures are still located where they used to be, but since the crocs moved to the new crocodile river this area of the Rivièrahal has been inaccesible since. The enclosures are probably in a decaying state right now but it hurts me to KNOW that they are still there and that there is not one of us who can access them and snap some pictures..

The crocodiles have lived in 5 enclosures: in the Reptile Building of the old diergaerde, the Victoria Hall (on the place of the hyacinthara and toucan enclosures), in the right side of the Twin Building (former Giraffe Building), in the Crocodile Hall of the Rivierahall (in the space where the toilets are now) and in the Crocodile River. There are even 2 crocodiles (Hakuna and Matata) that have lived in all of these enclosures.

On the left side of the hall were the Chinese alligators, on the right side were slender-snouted crocodiles (Hakuna and Matata) and on the far right side of the hall were alligator snapping turtles. These are the 2 pictures:

It is in the east wing of the Rivièrahal, the wing is closed off by automatic doors which are shut down but behind these doors is the gallery with the lowered enclosures which, as @Tiger showed, housed the Chinese alligators, the Slender-snouted alligators, and some snapping turtles.
I hope that some day Blijdorp will renovate the Rivièrahal completely and hopefully turn it into a reptile house again, the Rivièrahal used to be my favorite place in the park and when I went there last year and saw in what a bad state everything was in it really hit me.
