BlueZoo Aquariums

In the tradition of Sea Life and SeaQuest, the BlueZoo franchise is an all-indoor aquarium operation thats starting to pop up all over the country faster than McDonald's.

Three locations so far:

Baton Rouge, LA (Louisiana Mall - 2021)
Oklahoma City, OK (Quial Springs Mall - 2020)
Spokane, WA (Northtown Mall - 2018)

Set to open by end of 2022:

Roger, AR (Pinnacle Hill Promenade)
Boise, ID (location unknown)

I haven't heard as much negative news from them as SeaQuest, though there is some criticism present online. They don't seem to have any mammals and birds, which is a positive considering the tiny mall spaces.
Has anyone been to any of these places?

It's $20 admission for 22 exhibits...so about a dollar for every Green Iguana enclosure or clownfish tank. :p

They must be banking on desperate parents trying to keep their kids entertained during shopping excursions. But with mall popularity declining for decades and online shopping king, its surprising seeing mutiple fast-aquarium franchises coming into existence now, let alone expanding.

Sea Life makes some kind of sense to me. Merlin Entertainments owns a few other brands and can afford to turn malls into mini tourist attractions with Lego Land, Paw Patrol themed play areas, etc. It’s rarely just the aquarium drawing families in and they can bundle experiences for a discount. I think the other chains missed the memo on why Sea Life appears to work.

Caveat: I am unconvinced Sea Life is actually viable in the long term. Those prices are really high and malls, as you said, are dying.

BlueZoo is co-owned by the guys behind SeaQuest, which tells you plenty. It actually manages to be *worse* than those. It's barely an aquarium chain, it's more of a play place for children with a few tanks and people walking around with ambassadors. There's plenty of unpleasant stuff behind the chain, too.

What's up with the Covino bros and crappy aquarium franchises? These popup places feel like theyre part of some pyramid scheme.

They figured out how to make plenty of money from it. That the founder of BlueZoo needed backers and decided to go with the Covinos should tell you plenty about this chain!

they recently opened one here in Iowa but I have no idea what to do. I keep seeing their ads and I want to do something, but I don't know how to make people more aware around here, if you want the specific location for this branch, it's in West Des Moines near Jordan Creek Mall. there are people here in Iowa who know about the abuse, but I don't know how to spread the word.
