Bonobos in Europe

So Habari is the dominant male at Planckendael who has sired to many offspring. As well as his mother Janoa is very represented in the population. Coupling this with the fact that the group is split because of the baby abduction and him not being allowed to breed anymore. They decided to do a vasectomy by a human specialist, so the group has the option to merge again. They opted for a vasectomy for health reasons since castration has some downsides. Right now their are no plans for further vasectomies, however is this goes well I could see it being implemented more.

I don't know the official amount of offspring. I only got this from talking to a keeper, I inquired about the paternity but the hair pulling isn't always done soon. They see it as having 8 years before they have to do it. As well as researchers putting off doing the tests until a couple are in. So I don't have any clear info as to his offspring, I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks Perseus. It is me allright.

Anyone any idea which animals, bonobos, will start these news groups at Zlin and Budapest?

To my knowledge HABARI only sired RUBANI (the sire of VYOMBO and XOLANI are still unknown). His dad VIFIYO and the bloodline of his mum DJANOA are well represented.

@john
Unfortunately I do not know.

And who is the father, or possible potential father of Wakati (female, born 2021, Planckendael)?

NAYEMBI came to Planckendael pregnantly, sire should be HERI, NYOTA II, PANISCO or SAMBO in Frankfurt.

I am curious whether HABARI will remain the one and only who got a vasectomy in europe. I think about LIMBUKO, RUBANI, BILI II and some more.

In a post on this forum of 2008 I read Kidogo is the father of Habari and not Vifijo. Can somebody confirm or deny that information?

Could there be an othere reason for sectomizing Habari? Beside the so called siring to many offspring? Genetically? Behaviourally?
His future housing?

So some small updates from Planckendael. Zamba, is allowed outside as long as the group is split. For future pregnancies it will be a while. Only females cleared are Nayembi and Binti. The rest is limited, a 3rd female might be allowed, no name given.
They also made clear that right now breeding for Bonobos is very limited because they need more holders and certain lines are way to over represented. So hurry up Budapest and Zlin.

Does anyone know the mother of the fifth baby born at La Vallee des Singes last year? Ulindi or Lingala? And do the baby’s have names yet? I’ve only heard of Lukombe and Bembe being names for possibly Ukela and Lucy’s babies.
