Bonobos in Europe

Bonobo YASA (20) gave birth to a female baby one week ago (May 15th) . Unfortunately and unexpectedly YASA rejected the baby, but LEXI (17) adopted it immediately. So LEXI now takes care of her 6 months old son TAYO and the daughter of YASA.
 
So all four bonobos born so far this year (Sanza, Xola, Kimya and Amira) are girls :) good to hear as that makes things a lot easier in regards to moving them once they're of age.
 
We urgently need more zoo that keep bonobos and we need more male - Berlin, Wuppertal, Stutrgart, Twycross and Apenheul have only one or no proven breeding male...
 
Don't underestimate Winton or Makasi at Twycross and Apenheul, likewise with the twins at Wuppertal. Agree about Berlin needing a new male, I think that Mobi should be given a chance at Stuttgart and if/when he passes away he hasn't bred a new male should be brought in.
 
The Stuttgart staff is doing everything they can to breed with MOBI, but it does not work.

They should start to collect the heritage of Mobi and do it artificially.

Once the prospect of good breeder has been. In his early days in Holland in the group of four.
 
Bonobo born to BASHIRA and HERI/NYOTA II/PANISCO/BILI at Frankfurt Zoo today (Dec. 20th).

EJA's son at Wuppertal Zoo (born July 6th) got the name BAKARI.

Great news from Stuttgart: Male baby born to CHIMBA (born ~1995) last friday. She seems to be a good mother inspite of her past in a chimpanzee group.

Fingers are crossed...
 
Male bonobo born to ZOMI in Frankfurt April 17th. He is called YANGO and is beeing handreared by chief keepers wife.

Unfortunately KAMITI did not care enough for her son XHOSA, born December 21st last year. ZOMIs older son SAMBO is carrying the baby around and bringing him to the fence to get food from keepers hands.
