Sad news reached me today that Boris, Chessintons Bull Sealion died of natural causes today.

His health had fluctuated over recent years and compliments to the staff that gave him a healthy final few years and dignified end

Sad news- he was a big old male and a familiar sight at Chessington's excellent and very spacious sealion exhibit. I think there is a younger male in the group already?

For a sealion he was very old and i think fathered 40/50+ pups. The group im pretty sure is an all male group.

The group im pretty sure is an all male group.

It cetainly wasn't the last time I went a couple of years ago- there were several young pups all born in the same month with their mothers and about ten sealions in all. Why should they have changed such a successful display?

It changed to all male about 1/2 years ago the male pups have stayed.Im not sure i think the females definately went to foriegn zoos.
Anyone know anything??

Probably because the many descendants of Boris are over-represented in the population .

I always thought it was one of the best Sealion displays in the Uk having almost a 'colony' feel about it. Still, a group of just males will fill the enclosure just as adequately, I guess.
