Bornean Clouded Leopard

This is very intruging, I'm surprised that zoo at Prague and France they'd have such exotic species, I predicted many things they'd have would be old world, but I'm obviously wrong,

I think a lot of the clouded leopards now in other European zoos were bred at Howletts .

It is quite traditional specie in Zoo Prague - they reared their first cubs in 1969 (followed by december 2006 and this year one). I'm not sure if they have had cloueed leopards all the time since this year, but these marvelloous cats are kinda reagular specie there.

Frankfurt had a young animal last year who died (i believe choked in a hole in the breeding box or something) and i believe they've bred again after that incident. There might also be some breeding going on in french zoo's but i'm not sure...
There is a thread about Frankfurt's clouded leopards http://www.zoobeat.com/109/frankfurt-zoo-20772/

Not the pair in Paris. One of them is from Prague so born in december 2006, it is too young to have its own cubs. Maybe in 2009 or later...

How is Prague's exhibits can you list any state of the art ones, I'd love to know more about easternal european zoos,

I think the best way to describe the exhibits are pohotos and videos. Indoor - there is a tape with jungle like noises playing all the time and the visitors path is dark. Although there are branches and reptile terariums in between opposite cats exhibit sometimes sumatran tigers catch a glimpse of smaller cats on the other side of a pavilon. I bet it is hard to find better photos of outdoor exhibit then these under the czech article about the reconstruction in 2006 because there are not usually seen in them (I bet they are prefer to hide somewhere near the corridor between outdoor and indoor exhibit where they can't be really seen.

This clip is a good example how the indoor cats exhibit looks like (only there is not so much pacing or activity often)
YouTube - ZOO Prague (not my video)
(not on video - fishing cat, jaguarundis and asian lions(assuming the first tiger in the clip was malayan and the letter one sumatran); amur tigers and amur leopards have their own exhibits in the upper part of the zoo)

Photos from reconstruction under the article - Stavby – 2006 - malé koèky - Zoo Praha - plants are much grenr and higher now; 5 exhibits for fishing cat, caracals, old clouded leopard pair, young breeding pair and jaguarundis make 565m2 total

I can't say much about other zoos in region but just recently I was in Zoo Jihlava where outdoor exhibit were nice but indoor ones just sucked and all big cats were pacing. I'm sure it is much better in other czech zoos because Jihlava is quite small and funds are obviously limited.

Thanks docend 24, so to put it short exhibits in Pargue are good but not great right?

I guess they are good (possibly great) for animals, viewing pleasure of visitors can be better, but I'm used to it that in Zoo Prague animals are what matters (of course not everything is always perfect, zoo is still rebuilding). But it is not like you wouldn't see any clouded leopard, usually youj would capture 1-2 adults (of 4) and cubs are usually active (if they have any) - last time I went the current cub was lying in ambush to - nothing. .)

Going WAY off-topic here. But Prague is my all-time favorite Zoo. The park is divided in two parts by a huge cliff-face on which is mountain ungulates are housed, very impressive and the by any stretch the best mountain ungulate exhibit possible.

The bottom part of the zoo was more or less destroyed by a flood in 2002? if i'm right and has been almost totally rebuild. The park itself is huge, and the collection surpasses anything i've seen anywhere else. There's a lot of decent exhibits, a few VERY good ones and only a few not so good ones (just the elephants and hippos, standard small city-zoo exhibit), with no VERY bad ones.

Amazing place to be.

I found this site Care for Animals Project at Lok Kawi Wildlife Park in Malaysia.

which says this:
Clouded Leopards are usually found in lowland rainforest habitats. There is one Clouded leopard at the Wildlife Park. This clouded leopard was injured and rescued at a very young age and has been hand reared in captivity. It is very rare to see Clouded Leopards in the wild as they are very secretive by nature.

Lok Kawi has a range of native (Bornean) and exotic animals, but the above quote does make it sound like the clouded leopard was obtained locally

I see, most likely Borneo subspecies, Malaysian authorities have a strange way of doing things, last time I went back to Sarawak, my uncle said that sometimes they just stick animals in a zoo, its strange sometimes its even for breeding they get a particular gender and put it with another in a zoo,
