Borneo mammals i saw....

Thanks for your last post , Patrick . I am pleased that you also enjoyed the rain forest and saw a few animals in there .
If I ever go back to Borneo , I hope to Kinabatang River , Danum Valley , the new zoo near KK as I understand that the roads now resemble roads , and it will be easier to get to those places --- and gee , I envy you for visiting what you did in Sabah ! You are right -- there is nothing like experiencing sightings of orangs and other wildlife in the REAL wild , just like it would be to see a kiwi in native bush in NZ , or to see platypus in a river thats not part of a zoo or wildlife park in Aust .
I think that it is a pity that visitors go to Sepilok just for the feeding sessions ( thats what most visitors did when I was there )
Still , their choice , their loss .

to see platypus in a river thats not part of a zoo or wildlife park in Aust .

Platypus are very common in Tasmania. I saw several on one of my visits there- in two or three different locations. Just sit by a likely slow-flowing stream or river, preferably in the evening, and you've a strong chance of watching one. I quietly followed one some distance along a stream too and it seemed very undisturbed and I even watched one from the bridge over the river at(I think) Deloraine in Northern Tasmania.

apparently they are really easy to see on kangaroo island in south australia (where they are introduced)
