Bowmanville Zoo (Closed) Bowmanville Zoo

I remember reading an article about the zoo rallying in wake of the closure news. It seems people in he community started visiting the zoo in hopes of saving it. So much so, that the zoo said after the summer they would verify if the rally of people visiting helped. Projection showed that it wouldn't.

Let's hope this zoo closes, because this is just worse.

The PETA video, in particular, was even more difficult to watch in comparison to the tiger whipping incident.

I don't understand - is there some other video? The tiger one showed what was happening, this video you linked to is just two people in a room talking and the zoo employee is saying the gun isn't loaded anyway.

As far as I can tell there's no video of the staff shooting the Giraffe. The undercover person saw it happen.

Good. My only interest in this zoo now, is where the animals will be going.

Mine as well Cypher. I want it closed but I fear a lot of the animals owned outright by the zoo will be sold off to the highest bidder regardless of their ability to care for the animal or their intent for it. I will not be surprised if we never hear what happens to the animals not returned to their original zoo.

In effect, if and when that happens the Municipality is committing an animal welfare felony themselves. The just approach would be the have CAZA staff assisting with relocation of the present stock to accredited zoos and similarly vetted private breeding facilities.

All that's left is sending the animals to other zoos.

Article mentions that on Tuesday, "A pair of lions are going to the Cherry Brook Zoo in Saint John, New Brunswick and two camels will be going to Oaklawn Farm Zoo in Aylesford, Nova Scotia"

Homes for the other animals is still in the process of being selected.

Hi I follow the Canadian zoos on here but don't comment very often love the info an energy.
I believe I've read in the past that the Bowmanville Zoo has the Toronto Zoo's NG Singing Dogs as well as at least one Ring Tail Lemur. I was wondering if the Toronto Zoo will be getting them back if there are any other animals they'll be getting back or accepting.
Thank you.

I don't know about the singing dogs. I really don't know how many Toronto had to begin with. The most recent pair in Toronto had been lent out to... darn can't remember... some educational group. They returned and were shipped out to California for retirement. Bowmanville could have others on loan I suppose. They definitely have a lemur. I would guess they have a couple more animals. I would guess Toronto will either accept their animals back or work with Bowmanville to find them homes at other Canadian zoos.

The Barasingha should be easy enough to place. While not a lot of zoos keep them (4 zoos in the AZA) they are genetically valuable animals so any of those zoos would likely be thrilled to get them. Whether Bowmanville wants to give them to AZA zoo is a different matter. The flip side is that those zoos might also be willing to pay for them.
