Brandywine Zoo Brandywine Zoo news

The pintails in the South American Aviary are actually the South Georgia subspecies, Anas georgica georgica.

By a quick search in the gallery, it looks like the only other place with South Georgia Pintail in the US is Sylvan Heights.

Buttonwood Park Zoo also keeps South Georgia Pintail, and I think a few other places also keep the species.

Savannah the serval has passed away :( She had been at the zoo since 2003, when she arrived as an escaped pet, putting her at a minimum of 21 years old.
That is actually really sad news - I enjoyed seeing her whenever I'd visit and telling her story when I was volunteering.

There's now caracal in the old swift fox exhibit.

I went to see the pudu the other day but they're off exhibit for the week due to refurbishments :( The toucans and tortoises were still out.
Wait, a caracal? Really?! That would be the only one in the northeast. I've never seen a caracal. Might need to take another trip.

It's not the only one in the northeast, they've suddenly been popping up everywhere! Last year it was the only felid with 10+ holders that I didn't see, this year I've seen them several times now, without going anywhere specifically to see one.

Who else in the northeast has one? Other than Erie Zoo (if you count that as Northeast) and Hawk Creek Wildlife Center (which has very limited hours), I can't think of anywhere that has one. I know I've seen seventeen different felid species in zoos, and caracal is not one of them.

Claws N Paws. Why wouldn't Erie be northeast? If you want to stretch it further there's Metro Richmond and Creation Kingdom in VA and 3+ holders in NC, all 5 of which added the species in the last year or two.

Different people define "northeast" in different ways. While it's still part of Pennsylvania, it is very far west in the state, regionally with a lot more in common with the midwest than northeast. As someone from New England but going to college in western New York, those areas are culturally and geographically quite different, so one could make a fair argument that they belong in a different region. That's not to say they don't belong in the Northeast, I'm just saying that it depends on how you want to define the region.

PA is northeast :) I've never seen anyone split the state up (or any state) when using more broad terms with directionals. If we were getting into stuff like "Appalachia" and whatnot, then yes.
