Sadly male Southeast african lion (Panthera leo krugeri) Haldir passed away on the 28th of February, he was born in ZooParc de Beauval.

On the 7th of March a Western pygmy hippopotamus (Choeropsis liberiensis liberiensis) was born to 16-year old female Dinbe. According to the zoo's instagram this is the first birth in 8 years in Bratislava zoo!

Soon multiple Ferruginous ducks (Aythya nyroca) that hatched in Bratislava Zoo will be send to Wroclaw zoo to eventually be released at the Milicz Ponds in Poland.

The zoo is now raising money to repair the roof of their inside enclosure and to renovate the outside enclosure.

Last year a (male?) Visayan warty pig (Sus cebifrons negrinus) was born, a zoo first breeding for Bratislava!

The zoo is still closed due to bird flu. New announced opeing date is 28th of February.
The zoo plans to move their 27-years old brown bear Felix from old bear pit (built in 1960s) into wolf pen. Thier two old wolfs that live there will move into smaller pen nearby. The old bear pit will be probably demolished, I guess.
They also build new aviaries in different parts of the zoo. For ravens, snow owl, Eurasian eagle owl, pheasants, pigeons and lory parrots.
They want soon to bring in new Sri Lankan leopard from zoo Fuengirola, new wild horses, new male lion.

Their last white tiggress Shilang has been euthanised due to failing health at the age of 18. The zoo doesnt plan to acquire new white tigers.

It can't come quickly enough; that old bear pit has got to be the worst enclosure I have seen for any bear species within a European collection.
Last I heard they wanted to switch to Sumatrans, but that info is already couple years old and I didn't hear about that since.
The current zoo director quit due to long-term attacks. Her term ends this month. The new zoo director has been already chosen. It seems he has zero experience with zoos or captive animals. He works at ministry, in the past he was director of municipal forestry company.

So in 2020 as seen in the previous page, the change in management was brought up. Is this director the one that arrived during 2020? What did he and the zoo get attacked on?

Last month a male Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) was born, a zoo first breeding for Bratislava and its also the first time that this species has bred in Slovakia!

The new male Sri Lanka lepard arrived in July from Fuengirola and today was moved on show. Tissa is already 17 years old but the zoo still hopes he will mate with their female.
