Currently there are roughly 26.21. Brazilian Tapirs in North America according to isis. Rum Creek/Peace River (not sure if it is two different collections or the same) recently has had a birth but are they being phased out? Most of these zoos have a pair but are they just choosing not to breed them or what? Besides Rum Creek/Peace River there are a few other facilities in the private sector that keep these. Shadow Nursery, T.I.G.E.R.S., Animal Kingdom Zoo, and I'm sure a few others. Any information on this species status would be appreciated.
