can anybody give me some upto date info on the tapirs please.

any calves due?
thanks:)

*and also on any past offspring?

I know they have good breeding sucsess with them at longleat, i think they have at least two of three calves, they usually move on and the mum and dad stay to breed.

I think they have had around 5 or 6 babies, with only one being a female. Their first son went to Twycross (i think) and has bred there with the resident female.

Their enclosure at Longleat is one of the best I have seen, very spacious, and allows upto 4 tapirs to be kept at anyone time

Sad old me knows a bit about the tapirs at Longleat.
I think the following is correct.

The 1st son was Denzil, who now resides at Bristol.
The 2nd son, Chico, is now at Dudley.

After them 2, there was a female called Delores, another male called Ernest. Don't know where they went to. Anyone?

And lastly, 2 more sons Gomez and Hugo, who were both still at Longleat when I last went with the parents Jethro and Jessie!

Hugo born in 2007, so don't know if there was any young in 2008? Don't think there was. Don't know if there are plans for Gomez and Hugo to depart, or if they have departed recently?

Thanks for the great info!!
But does anyone have any recent updates,

-pregnancies
-births
-deaths
-departures

thanks
josh.

is there any news about the tapirs?
does anyone know the date of birth of any of there calfs?
does anyone know any information about the parents when they were born and where?
i would be greatful for any information

I think another of there offspring went to WMSP? Don't know if he is still there or not? They have had at least 1 female calf born to this pair at some point.

Does WMSP have tapirs?

That's what I thought, but one of the posts above says they think one of the offspring went to WMSP. Strange.

Around 5 or 6 years ago I am almost certien that a male tapir moved to WMSP from Longleat. He moved into the current tapir house(they were kept in the giraffe house before that)with his parents and then left shortly after.

Gomez born 2006 has gone to Cotswold's Wildlife Park (CWP) in the last few weeks.

Hot off the press! A Longleat born male has been shipped to Belgium recently as a mate for a young female. I assume that it will be Hugo born at the park in 2007.
