The zoo have taken in another Black-handed Spider Monkey that was confiscated at the US-Mexico border. Tuesday, zoo officials posted to Brevard Zoo's website that a pathologist had found a "severe infection" of coccidia, a type of parasite, in the otters' intestines. This parasite damaged the otters' intestines, allowing another infection — Clostridium bacteria — to spread and produce a toxin, which zoo officials said they believe caused the otters' death.

Not to mention, that according to the article, the zoos’ animal care staff have performed a neonatal exam on the little fella back on the 4th, and they said that the calf was seemingly confirmed to be a male.
