On August 11th, the zoo announced they have moved their (0.1) cheetah named Pepper into one of the jaguar exhibits in Rainforest Revealed as her exhibit is being turned into a new African lion exhibit.

On August 25th, it was announced that the zoo transferred a (1.0) babirusa named Java to the Audubon Zoo in Louisiana.

On August 4th, the zoo announced they have acquired a (0.1) American black bear from Homosassa Spring Wildlife State Park after she was found as a cub in the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge.

ECZS Legacy Campaign – Brevard Zoo & The Aquarium Project

The East Coast Zoological Society which operates the Brevard Zoo is planning a new aquarium on the Space Coast in Port Canaveral. The Aquarium Project, as it is known, has updated their website with a fly through video and new renderings.

On September 16th, the zoo announced that (0.0.3) Osceola turkeys hatched on September 9th and 10th respectively. This is the first time the facility has successfully bred the subspecies.

Also on September 16th, the zoo announced they have received the 2022 Quarter Century Award by the AZA.

Southern white rhinoceros in training for AI:

Brevard Zoo's White Rhinos Uzuri and Kibibi to Be Artificially Inseminated to Ensure Long-Term Genetic Diversity - Space Coast Daily

At this time, we are unsure if both Uzuri and Kibibi will be selected as candidates for AI, but we are beginning the process again of getting both rhinos comfortable in the chute and with ultrasound training.

If Uzuri and/or Kibibi voluntarily go through the entire process again, the final step is to be artificially inseminated with genetically chosen sperm from a male white rhino living at another AZA-accredited zoo.

On October 2nd, the zoo announced that (0.0.200+) green, loggerhead, and hawksbill sea turtle hatchlings have been brought to the Healing Center on September 29th from the Cape Canaveral area due to the effects of Hurricane Ian.

On December 8th, the zoo announced they renovated and reopened their Chilean flamingo exhibit to the public, after being closed due to avian influenza. Some of the changes include leveling out the main landmass to make it an actual island, adding a new clay substrate to the exhibit, and hotwire/cameras being set up overnight.
