So, everything is backward in Bristol? is this just the zoo, or the whole of a great city that you are condemning?

And the zoo is to be converted into a "Primate Centre"? Why offer such utter hogwash, without any hint of a perhaps, or a maybe, or a possibly, when it is so far from the truth? You just end up looking silly, and you chip away at the remaining credibility of this site. Which is a shame.

That can't happen anyway silly..., as we all know that TWYCROSS is the 'official' primate centre in the UK and nobody else can be afforded THAT title!!!!
 
I went today.
Really annoyed they don't let Paignton memberships in any more! It's probably a reciprocal spat?
Highlights:
* The marsupial collection, especially the Tree Roo's (the male was desperately trying to scratch his way through to the female side.
* The Kea's - very active and attacking their keepers.
* The large number of BH Lion Tamarins.
* Very inquisitive and playful Sumatran Laughing Thrushes.
Not so good:
* Drill, Tapir and Hippo enclosures.
Question: Why are they not taking advantage of the huge, sturdy aviary that contains the tree kangaroo's?
 
Do the Tree Kanagroo's venture outside much ? I was there this week and was lucky enough to go in the indoor housing and see them (They are in the old Okapi Stabling). The keeper seemed to imply they don't venture out much.

He also didn't know if the Tapirs and Capybara were going or not, and said that nothing had been said to him in that regard and he was in charge of that section. They only have one Capybara, 2 Agouti and 2 Tapir in that Zona Brazil section.

I never figured out what they actually built this enormous construction for- just as a 'free flight ' aviary for the Australian species they no longer have? Seems like a 'white elephant' now...

Has there ever been an agreement between Bristol and Paignton? Only i've been a member of both over the last 8 years and they haven't had an agreement in that time.
 
There was an agreement in the past, not sure how long ago but not any more. I think Paignton is perhaps too close. Other zoos where a Bristol membership can be used include Colchester, Edinburgh and Chester, all quite a long way from Bristol. Marwell is about the closest.
 
Both are included in my Chester pass (and I was very cross with myself on realising I had forgotten that when visiting Paignton earlier in the year - made sure I used it on visiting Colchester in the summer!)

It's rather annoying that Paignton isn't included with the Bristol pass, as I decided for the coming year to get Bristol and Hamerton membership instead of my usual Chester membership. But I am planning on visiting Paignton again, and hopefully also Blackpool, which makes me think it would be wiser to get membership to Twycross instead, which will give me one visit to Bristol, as well as one to Paignton and Blackpool. Darn, and I thought I had all that worked out... back to the drawing board.

(The Twycross free visit to Blackpool is only until the end of February, though, and as I am already going to Exmoor Zoo in February half term, I definitely won't be visiting Blackpool Zoo in the same week!)

Bristol Charge about £30 a year for membership, or £42 including wild place, as a result they don't have any reciprocal parks.

Paignton, give you access to Newquay and Living Coasts in their membership @ £59.50

If you consider both Chester and Edinburgh are around £100 a year, you can see why you get other Zoo access, but Bristol's membership is very cheap, so you can understand why it only includes their two zoo's.

Edinburgh's membership is only £65 for adults.

£42 must be for a child as my Bristol /Wild Place membership is £61. This includes a discount for being a returning member.
 
Yes just gone through and it's £72 for an adult, a clever way to advertise, gives the impression it's £42, but that's actually a child.
 
Red-necked Sulawesi ground-dove Gallicolumba tristigmata bimaculata are being kept in the aviary near the butterfly tunnel. Don't know how long they've been there but I only noticed them today.
