Bristol Zoo Project Bristol zoo project news 2024

Visited today 17/12/24

They have changed the fence in the giraffe area, what used to be rocks and an electric fence is now a mesh fence, they’ve also added mesh to all the fence bar the old red river hog area

the bali starlings are in with the pink pigeons however I saw neither unfortunately

but I was very lucky to see the cockatoo over the fence

a bit of a bad shot

also the zoo have announced. More information about Clifton conservation hub and that they are transferring the herbaceous border to BZP, as. Much as I like the wild feel, it will be nice to have a formal garden of sorts Creating a Conservation Hub at the Bristol Zoo Gardens site - Bristol Zoo Project

Wondered why they were digging up the garden with the air raid shelter in it, next to the walled garden, when there about a month ago (if it’s due to go in this area?)

I visited this morning. There was lots of ground works progressing through the car park. It looked like drainage works?
The main steel frame is in place for the Gorilla/mangabey house, along with the foundation concrete and tank walls of the crocodile/parrot house.
From the viewpoints alongside the old okapi stables and from the giraffe platform, it’s now possible to see the outline of the new development and ‘picture’ how it will all look.
It was good to see Crowned Crane in the walled garden and get more views of the Red Vented Cockatoos over the back fence again.
I heard rumours about a new reptile/amphibian house, but I can only see this must be some kind of temporary set up, maybe similar to a butterfly tunnel? Does anyone have any details?
A new gate was being installed into the perimeter fence of the lynx paddock beneath the boardwalk. the Wolverine family were very active.
Exciting times for BZP.

If they recreate the herbaceous half as good as the original, it should look splendid
I would like to think it is a welcome addition to the new zoo, particularly the vibe and adds to the visitor experience. The herbaceous border and other plantings will create just the right athmosphere ... for the new zoo. It is all in the eye of the beholder!
